Default The Nutcracker: The Untold Story - November 1, 2011

The Nutcracker: The Untold Story Blu-ray

The Nutcracker: The Untold Story Blu-ray Review

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky's The Nutcracker: The Untold Story to Blu-ray. The film saw a limited theatrical release in the U.S. last year and was originally titled The Nutcracker in 3D.

The Hungary/U.K. production is a retelling of Tchaikovsky's famous Nutcracker ballet, but acts as a children's adventure instead of a choreographed dance film. It stars Elle Fanning as Mary alongside Nathan Lane, John Turturro and Frances de la Tour. Oscar-winning lyricist Tim Rice (The Lion King) oversaw music for the film. Despite the talent involved, this new version underperformed in its limited release and received negative reactions from critics.

The Blu-ray will feature DTS HD Master Audio 5.1. Special features have yet to be revealed.

Look for The Nutcracker: The Untold Story to street on November 1st, 2011.

This was a really cute movie. I rented it from Blockbuster because I'm a big Elle Fanning fan and I remember seeing the trailer for it and I thought it looked pretty good. Elle was adorable in this movie and I'll probably add this to my collection soon.

Looks cool based on the trailer, and with nice Steampunk touch in it, I need to buy this one for my Christmas movies marathon!

I was thinking of this myself. Best Buy has 2 skus of this flick: one is a 3D and 2D blu combo for $50, the other is just a 3D version for $25.

I may get this when the holidays get a little closer.

I remember getting this last Black Friday for like $12.99. I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I quite enjoyed it. I plan on watching it again around Christmas time.

Yeah, I caught the 3D version of the "Albert Einstein" one on Vudu VOD, when it looked like we wouldn't be getting the 3D on disk, and, um...is "stark raving bats**t" too strong a term?

(Yes, nothing says the warmth of the holidays like Nazi uniforms and burning Schindler-esque smokestacks...
Perhaps you're thinking of the harmless and unrelated IMAX version, although think that one didn't come out on 3D disk in the US either?)

Is this a conversion or was it shot in 3d?

Thanks,
Tom

Slant Magazine and other reviews mention conversion.
