From what I've read, Amazon recalled the product because of this until the problem was solved. It sounds like the copies they're selling now should be fine. As for Best Buy, that's a crapshoot. Depends on how old the inventory is.

I don't believe there's any reason to believe that anything has changed with the packaging or how the discs are now handled. Amazon had stopped selling the sets several times since it first went up for sale, and each time they put them back up again, until others complained and they pulled it down again. This has happened several times now. It's the same packaging, and the same discs, so I don't see what has changed. There's just less people purchasing the set now as it has had its initial rush of fans, followed by many returns and complaints. Things are slowing down now so naturally there will be less complaints.

If there is anything that Warner or Amazon or Best Buy has stated suggesting things have been fixed, I'd like to know. Otherwise, I think it's safe to assume that nothing has been done about it, and it's still a hit-or-miss situation like it has been since the beginning.

Possible. Anything I've been able to find has been from the internet. So you know, definitely 100% the truth.

Wish there was something they would do over all the complaints... like release the set in an actual case like the Nightmare set was. That is the one and only reason why I have not purchased this set. I'm not forking over $70+ on something that can get damaged easily, or could be damaged before it even arrives to me.

i actually like the packaging all together, no complaints here. i prefer the 'disc placement' on this set over the chucky set.

I hated the tin itself - I don't even call that artwork. The actual cardboard "book" that holds all the discs is quite attractive. But after 2 sets with scratches, I gave up. My Little House on the Prairie set holds 5 discs in a slim case with plastic hubs and they pop on and off with ease - I'm up to disc 3 now and no scratches after removing them multiple times. How hard would it have been for Warner to keep it simple like that?

I have a few Blu-Rays that are scratched and they all play fine.

I always thought that scratches don't effect Blu-Rays?

That's beside the point. When you buy a brand new product, it's not supposed to be ****ing scratched from the start or get scratched because of the goddamn packaging.

They can - in fact, due to how close the data is packed on a blu-ray, a fine scratch can affect more data. Of course sometimes a scratch won't affect playback at all.

But scratches certainly affect the value if you try to sell them later. Many used retail stores won't even buy discs that are scratched. My local stores look at each disc - if they are scratched, they give it back to me.

Precisely. I'm always amazed how many people are willing to accept scratched discs on a $100 blu-ray set. Why on Earth would people accept damaged discs if they're buying them new?

Debated on buying this but is there a specific reason why Jason Goes to Hell isn't the uncut version?

Here's what you do -

Get a Viva Elite 10-disc case, or at least have a bunch of spare old cases to use to get the discs into.

Open up the book, and with one hand pry the cardboard slot open as wide as you can, and then grasp the disc with the other hand and pull it out - the key is to not let it scrape against the cardboard. Blow off the disc or use a microfiber cloth to gently brush away any debris.

Place them in proper cases. Never worry again.

I put them in random cases before the 10-disc cases arrived (I ordered a few while I was at it), and then I printed out the cover from earlier in this thread (basically the cover of the set just sized for an insert).

In this case, there seemed to be two problems - one, some discs had a mark on them like something had "gripped" them too tightly (or without a pad on it) - my DVD had that but it played fine and it was the Blu's that I was worried about. With the Blu's, I saw a lot of folks report that it was taking them out the first time is when they seemed to scratch (not everyone, but a lot of folks) which leads me to believe there was cardboard debris/etc. that was causing a lot of the issues (which is the reason I think the removal technique above works best - I opened my set that way and two others for friends and we all seemed to make it).

It's a great set - coupled with Crystal Lake Memories, it's really all you'd ever want - except for unrated JGTH and a real 3-D version of 3 (which I am pretty sure we will get as a single release sooner or later).
If you have to whip out a microscope to decide if you like a Blu-ray or not, you are missing the point.

That's what I did. Beginning to end.

I was annoyed about there not being anything printed on the spine of the box set, and when I read your post (in addition to reading in the description of the eBay item, that others have found the sticker to fit perfectly) I ordered this sticker. This thing is too big for my case, so I'm not sure what's going on with this... I'm sending an e-mail to the seller as well, because certainly I'm not the only one that this isn't working for... any advice, or comments on this matter anyone?

edit: it's mostly just the "F" in Friday that is the main problem. If I open the case, and I'm damn near surgical with the placement of the sticker, I guess most of it would get on there, but in order to just SEE if it will work I'd pretty much have to open and therefore ruin the sticker... not too sure about this.

I also hate the blank, black spine of the tin. Saw the link to eBay. The description says fits perfectly on the spine. But then goes on to say the dimensions are an inch and half by six inches. Seemed like a tight squeeze, and I've been debating buying this decal. Thank you for posting, due to your experiance, I'm going to hold off on purchasing this for now.

How would anyone know that "it was taking them out the first time" that scratched the discs if they never saw the discs before taking them out the first time? The scratched discs I had gone through (across 3 sets and the WB rep that sent me scratch-free discs went through more) had to have already been scratched. If the sleeve was scratching the discs, I should've been able to incur more scratches by sliding the discs in and out of the sleeve multiple times. That never happened for me.
