Perhaps it's different in Canada, but down south here, they all do it.

Yes, here in Canada they don't mix the blus and DVDs (and I'm referring to ones I've been to recently in Saskatoon, Regina, Coquitlam and Calgary). But they have definitely scaled back the amount of titles they offer. And it's so bizarre, what they will have. Recently I was in one and amongst the usual uninspiring shelves of recent releases, there was a copy of Samson and Delilah, which I have not seen for sale in any other B&M store I've been to in recent months.

I used to love shopping there when they had a huge selection and totally agree about the mixing blus and dvd's. It's awful. I love browsing but there's fewer and fewer places to do it. BB needs to do something quick or it's curtains.

Keeping on topic, the Man with No Name trilogy is awesome. If people are finding it sub $20 and don't have it, get it. A must for anyone remotely interested in the western genre.

This is now part of Wal-Mart's newest Blu-Ray mod. I just picked up the new set for $15 there this afternoon. Keep your eyes open!

What are the chances that the standalones of the first two films get new covers to match the remaster of TGTBTU?

So I picked up the Trilogy at Wal-Mart for 15 bucks with the new TGTBATU re-master. I didn't like the screenshots I've seen but I wanted to give the new master a chance in motion.

This is really a bitter sweet release. The interior scenes look great to me. Lots of detail and in that regard, the film has never looked better. However, the yellow push really rears it's ugly (pun intended) head in the exterior sequences. I have a hard time believing this was Leone's original intention. I definitely found the yellow timing distracting in the exterior scenes. This really needs to be sorted out. I would love to see a company like Criterion get a hold of this title and give us what we really want. Better color timing, the US cut and the original mono. This film is truly one of the greats and this new re-master teases at how wonderful the film could look with the right color timing. Maybe I'm wrong and this is the way Leone wanted the film to look. But my gut is telling me otherwise..

It'll probably have 1 last chance to get it right on 4K (especially since Fistful of Dollars just got a 4K remaster as well). However I think I read somewhere that one has a yellow tint as well.

I'm just sticking with what I have for now since I didn't like the idea of upgrading the trilogy when only 1 film was remastered.

I hear ya. I only did that because at this time it's cheaper to buy the trilogy than to pick up the stand alone TGTBATU! It seems to me that nobody really knows what the Leone original color timing was supposed to look like. I'd like to see more evidence that this yellow push was the original intention. I did see the film in a theatre before the 2003 restoration. While I can't rely fully on memory for that far back, I don't remember walking out thinking "why was everything so yellow?" Personally, I think the yellow push is revisionist color timing.

With respect to this new 4K restoration of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...

Even assuming that the color scheme was not the intention of the filmmakers, yellow tint on new Blu-ray > digital noise reduction on previous Blu-ray.

I'm immensely pleased with the new disc.

The DNR on the previous disc was really bad which is why I decided to plunk down more cash on this new re-master. I wish I could have the detail of the re-master and the color timing of the original Blu-ray release. I believe the DP was still alive when the 2003 cut was created. I wonder if he was consulted about the films color timing?

I think the color timing on both is utterly dreadful. But the Italian blu simply nails it. There is no good English-friendly disc of TGTBTU I'm afraid, so I've been forced to home-brew my own.

Just finished the remastered Good Bad and Ugly. Wow. Stunning. The yellow ton was offputting at first but ended up being perfect. Far better than the previous release. Already want to watch it again.
