Something Ive noticed on pre-1996 video releases that seems to be missing from every release since is at the end of 'Ive got a Golden Ticket' the mom interrupts saying 'Wait! Stop! It says the 'first of October'. Thats tomorrow!'. On every release from 1996 onwards the word 'Wait' is missing.

The place is gonna go to sh*t pretty quick.

While Veruka may have been spoiled she could take the factory on balls to the wall. Sure she would probably throw out the current help and hire cheaper workers. She would start out young but she would be the devil wears gobstopper in the end.
The film clearly explains why none of the other kids were given the factory: they were too selfish and/or mean-spirited. Charlie had his faults, to be sure...but as shown after Wonka's angry office tirade, his heart was in the right place. It took great courage and humility, for Charlie to surrender the Gobstopper believing the money from Slugworth would save his family. He made the tougher but correct choice, and was honored for it. The whole notion of him somehow "deserving" such a reward completely misses the point.

The review on this site says that most of the poorer image issues likely date back to the source, since the budget was very small. I watched it again this evening after a year or so, and it looks okay in most places. Some of the opticals are a little obvious though.

HD DVD looked more detailed and was more colorful, but of course had jaggies. The BD is mediocre looking but is free of them. This film could look a lot better than either release!
