If you think she's not a "good enough actress to carry an entire film", she sure as hell couldn't carry an entire franchise.

Hence "part of an ensemble". Cruise is teetering on Roger Moore territory and unless he wants Mission Impossible to become the new Expendables retirement home for those old enough to know better he should be confined to plot, planning and acting (such as he can manage) while someone else does the thumping, kicking and climbing. I think Gina Carano would be ideal.
All of humanity's problems stem from man's inability to sit quietly in a room alone.

Hey, I get what you're saying and everyone has a right to an opinion, I just can't agree. 1) Carano has simply not shown the acting chops to be a "star" and she needs way more movies under her belt; 2) Cruise has and is far more than an "action figure" (and "old"? Hell, he's making some of his best movies recently); and 3) if MI was to undergo a change in "leadership" (and Cruise is, by far, the leader, not a mere "ensemble" member), the franchise would be turned over to a younger, even hunkier, man. That's not a shot at Carano or women, it's merely a recognition of the way Hollywood works (you've got to be "bankable" to anchor a billion-dollar franchise and Haywire has barely broken even) - which is why female "wanna be action stars" have to start their own series and find tough sledding (witness even a big, marketable star like Angelina Jolie : 5 years on/5 years older and Salt 2 is still only a rumor). If the MI producers wanted to go to a female lead (unlikely), from both an experience and marketability standpoint, Milla Jovovich, for one, would be a far more likely choice - and she's still only 39.

P.S. Roger Moore is 87 , TC is still only 52.

Well, to be fair to his analogy, he was clearly implying the age of Roger Moore when he made his last 007 film.

I thought that might be his point (note the wink) and that he'd get back to me - but that still gives TC 5 years (+ he looks younger).

So I blind bought this at the used store a while back for a few bucks. It came out when I lived overseas and I never really heard of it, but the talent involved made it an easy get. Watched it this morning and LOVED it. The style, the great music, the smart way the plot was divulged, the great actors, and good old fashioned pacing that breeds tension and of course the perfectly staged and visceral fight scenes. One of the best action movies I've seen lately! Just great.

Check IMDB and this thread afterward to see it has a 5.8 rating and lots of haters. Wow, yet another moment that makes me feel completely detached from what film fans want nowadays. Boring? "Weird" music? Not enough action? What??? I just feel like I'm in an alternate dimension. No wonder movies like Transformers 4 light up the box office.

Yes the main girl's acting could be better and yes the plot is cliche (what plots aren't nowadays? Everything has been done). Everything else in this was just perfect for me though.

Yeah it's a pretty kick ass movie. The Fassbender fight in particular is fantastic.
