What is going on with the SR4KP1? I looked on the Sears website and it's selling for $470. Am I looking at the wrong player??

Wondering the same thing, went to look for one for a buddy and saw the price for it and was shocked! I had gotten mine from Sears in person a few months back and it was only $60 or so.

It looks like Sears doesn't carry it anymore. The exorbitant prices are from 3rd party marketplace sellers. I think your best bet is eBay.

Me too! Every time I spin up a Region B/C disc, I always wonder if this is the one that ends an era!

The older version had a option under TV System (Display Settings), where I think you could select NTSC/PAL or Multi. I can't find the specifications of the player so I can't find out if it supports PAL, but I'm sure other owners will help out.

It sounds like it just outputting PAL and your TV isn't up to it, so you might need to convert the PAL to NTSC, hopefully there's an option to do that!

The Seiki SR4KP1 should do that automatically IIRC.

Default Seiki SR4KP1

OK....I just got this unit and have it connected through my 5.1 sound system with HDMI. Does it utilize the HDMI to decode a 5.1 signal? I only get stereo sound...
Any help folks?

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago from Meh for only $43 and it works well so far. But it strikes me that the plastic case it's in is pretty flimsy. I'm curious to know people's experience with the unit's durability. Does it stand up well to extended use?

I've had mine in regular use since Dec 2014 with no issues.

I picked up The SR4KP1 from monoprice last week and the audio options have me confused. I have an older receiver that doesn't decode the HD Codecs so I have my PS4 send Linear PCM to the receiver through HDMI so I can get HD sound. Since the PS4 decodes the sound, the receiver just displays PCM and sends out lossless audio.

When I select PCM auto on the Seiki, also connected to the receiver through HDMI, I only get Stereo Sound with both lossy and lossless audio. Only when I select bitstream do I get multichannel sound. With bitstream, lossy audio from DVD displays on the receiver as Dolby Digital 5.1 (or DTS 5.1) which makes sense since the receiver is decoding the codecs but when I play lossless audio, the receiver will also display Dolby or DTS as if it's decoding the lossless audio and I swear it sounds lossless which isn't possible. Maybe I'm going crazy.

Does the SR4KP1 do any decoding on it's own? I know I need a new receiver but I thought PCM had me covered?

I bought the Seiki to finally go Region free so it's not my main player. I'm just wondering what's up. Thanks.

Update:

I think everything is just downmixing. When in bitstream, 7.1 downmixes to 5.1 and when in PCM Auto, everything is in stereo, lossy and lossless. I also can't access some options like PCM 5.x or PCM 7.x.

Maybe my player is broken or something entirely different is wrong with it. My guess is it doesn't play nice with my receiver. I give up!

The SR4KP1 is also available from B&H for $49.99, but with free shipping. Sale reportedly ends at the end of the day August 30th.

My two SR212S units are still running well, but a spare unit with a coaxial digital audio port at that price is something I could not pass up.

Looks like they stretched the sale out through 11:59 eastern time tonight (31 Aug).

Also, B&H is offering 2 and 3 year Squaretrade warranties with this for 5 and 8 bucks respectively.

I already own one of these and it's a decent unit, but it does occasionally make low pitch, sustained chirping noises during playback, only really noticeable in a quiet room. And there is one picture setting, I think its DNR, that can only be set to low and not turned off completely. But that region toggling feature sure is convenient.

Just got my order in; thanks so much for posting!

This is being sold for the same price through Monoprice too, but with an almost $12 shipping charge. With the B&H sale ending in a few hours though, it will be the next cheapest option.

Anyone have any problems with the 4K upconversion on this? When activated on my 4K TV, it seems to cause slight judder in movement of the image when playing back a blu-ray. No problem when just outputting 1080p.

I may have to grab the SR4KP1 for $50. I've been wanting to grab a region free player for years and never have.
