nowhere near the quality of BD3D. Popouts suck and depth is nonexistent on hbo 3d

H&K 3D is the movie I watched, and I thought it looked horrible, little to no depth and hardly and good popouts. I thought it looked fantastic in theatres though

Although DirecTV has 3 (really 2) 3D channels, the Sony one is repetitive, the ESPN 3D sports channel is very hard on the eyes, and the Panasonic one is basically nonexistent. PPV movies are available in 3D at a very premium price of $6.99. No 3D HBO on DirecTV.

I never saw this in theatres, but have seen the Blu-ray 3D and thought it was severely lacking for most of the run time (with the few pop-out exceptions).

But, ramble aside, I agree. There were these few gags throughout the film that I thoroughly enjoyed. They were day 1 test viewing when I got my Sammy. But the rest of the film was flat, flat, flat... So, chickachicka54, I wouldn't give up on HBO just yet. Unless you've seen H&K on both BD and HBO and still thought HBO was weak. They showing Avatar or Hugo any time soon?

H&K was not my favorite conversion for sure, the post effects added in and CG objects looked good (the eggs, smoke, etc..) but otherwise it seemed like the rotoscoped objects actually filmed had depth, but were very cardboard cutout like.
The depth of a film is what it is, just because one service is providing it over another they can not rerender the film themselves (move the cameras further apart or closer together) in any stronger or lesser 3d - the only thing changeable is the quality of the picture and whether they place the picture against your TV or sunk in a few inches or outward a few inches (like the depth adjustment on your tv), which I'm guessing the broadcast in an over/under format like Starz3D. It's not too bad, like watching an old flick that was cleaned up for a blu-ray release. Not the crispy picture we see today from a BR, but definitely better quality than a DVD. Watch another flick, preferably something filmed in 3D - you should notice a difference. |

H&K 3D was a conversion?

OK - technically no (you are correct), it was filmed mostly in 3d but some spots seemed so flat, I have read around that there were converted parts. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I could be 100% wrong though... I'm going off my own experience and some things I've read around the interwebz which we all know can't tell a lie..
EDIT: If the entire thing was filmed in 3D I would definitely put this low on my list for quality, and actually I'm a little bit floored by the lack of good content. But that is my own opinion, not talking for the majority. Last edited by Jsmith82; 01-21-2013 at 02:55 PM. |

Just watched Journey 2 3D on HBO VOD. while much better 3D than H&K, It still didn't pop nearly as much or had the same depth when I saw it on BD3D at my friends house. Is it because It is SBS 3d?

Haha AmrlKJaneway - exactly the same with us mate! Friends and I were super keen to see that but had to resort to ordering online. Didn't this only just get released on Blu-ray here a month or two ago? Talk about delayed. |

I will absolutely agree. So far I have watched 2 movies from HBO's 3D choices and the picture quality was pretty bad and the ghosting was awful. Now before anyone says its just my equipment, one of the movies I watched on HBO I also have on Blu-Ray 3D. I just watched it to compare the two, and there was little to no ghosting whatsoever on my Blu-Ray 3D.

We get most things on time though. Still no 3D TV stations that I know of, so I don't know what we're doing in this thread. But watching South Park is actually funny these days because the references are fresh and relevant, and we get to brag to yanks about seeing Marvel movies a week or two early, so I better not complain too much.

Cable is 1080i. Split that in two for a left image feed and a right image feed and you are watching 3D in only 540i.... hence the subpar image quality.
