If you understand irony so well, IN YOUR OWN WORDS explain irony because there is no irony whatsoever involved in his and my exchange. Most people cannot explain irony without looking it up. So after you google it you'll see how funny this is. Good luck with your words next time

I see your point though I do not think courage is needed to get to the end of a flick being there is nothing to fear. But as for patience, at times I have none as you can tell. My history of seeing bad movies never getting better is high enough to play the odds that it will not turn around.

I have actually made it to 15 minutes before a movie was over and walked out. I didn't find out how close to the end it was until a friend told me when I told him I left. I still didn't care, even after I heard what the end was.

I'd be willing to bet that more than a few people like it as a matter of principle more than anything else - gotta' support the director not compromising his artistic vision (even if it's dumb).
Yeah that's why I made that thread/poll. There was so much strong debate that I wanted to gain a clearer vision of the numbers. My guess up to that date was 50/50, and wrong I was.

I'm in the camp that loved it. Personally, I didnt know the story behind the "Budget vs Darbonts Vision" prior to seeing the film. I just loved it because it was dark, horrible and tragic.
Because Calamari Marionette Ph.D sounded pompous, that's why.

Agreed.

It is definitely one of the most disappointing endings I have ever seen, mostly because of how much I loved the rest of the movie.

I see why people like it. I mean I asked Thomas Jane himself what he thought of the ending and he said Frank wanted to shock his audience. Take from that what you will, but it sounds shallow to me--shock for the sake of shocking, as opposed to a more invested, logical ending (which could have been dark, horrible, and tragic as well). How could someone not like The Mist's ending? It's one of the greatest endings of the 2000s decade I'd say.

And yes I'm a huge Stephen King fan, so I can understand someone who is mad that they chagned that. HOWEVER, King himself hasadmitted he sucks at writing endings (in his own words, "I write endings for the same reason I wear pants.... It's what society dictates" or something to that effect). And certainly, as a big fan, I would say that his books usually fall apart at the ending.

So I'm not overly upset about the fact that the ending was changed.

That being said, if the ending sucked anyways, then I would have hated it. However, I thought it was awesome. Not nearly enough movies don't have happy endings, and almost none go that far down the bleakness road.

I thought it was completely logical. In fact, it was foreshadowed in a dark way. When they left the store and Jane looked in the
[Show spoiler]gun and saw only four bullets, thats exactly what ran through my mind. NOT ENOUGH bullets for a clean exit if things wind down to the bitter end.

Sorry, bad wording on my part. I meant rational. Too extreme ending that doesn't belong with the movie and serves just to shock us.

But I have watched house of 1000 corpses on tv and If I paid to see this I wouldn't have walked out I would have ran out and tried to get my money back and be ashamed to even watch this mess...I mean I will be honest I sat thru most of it. Me and my dad was watching and then we both looked at each other and turned the channel lol....I went back and watched it...(This wont make sense) But it was so dumb to me I had to see it all the way to the end...No offense to anyone that loves the film...I just will remember it as one of the worst I have ever sat down to watch.

Isnt it weird. You see it as completely out of character for the guy, and to me it seemed so right that I felt it coming in advance. Frankly, I was not shocked by the
[Show spoiler]killings, it was the surprise of the military arriving that shocked me. And I'll agree that was put in strictly for shock value. But, to me, that seems like an acceptable component of a horror/sci-fi/apocalyptic movie.

Whadya expect in a world of jumbo insects and dinosaurs that appear out of nowhere?

If I hadn't been with my Dad and he wasn't my ride I would have walked out of "The Hobbit". I was bored to tears and the 3D was giving me a headache. I took a nap instead

There are plenty of bad movies that I've seen in theaters whether on my own or coerced into seeing with friends, but I have never walked out of a movie before. If I'm going to pay all the money to go to the theater then I'm going to stick it out.
