I'm still hopeful that Warner will release Valley Of Gwangi, and with the recent announcement of WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH (1969), I'm even more hopeful.

More than half of the titles that were previously licensed to ADV Films like New Cutey Honey, Curse of the Undead Yoma, Gunsmith Cats, All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, Angelic Layer, Oh My Goddess (not the OAV series, which I'm hoping NC-based AnimEigo will try to crowdfund after they release Otaku no Video on Blu-ray), and a bunch more

Not fully related to this thread, but, I'm looking for the image that showed the bust and head of a man with less pixels on the left, then, the amount of pixels doubling as the bust and head were went to the right, showing that as the resolution doubles, there's a point where the eye can't notice the difference... Anyone know the picture I'm talking about?

Cheerleading about this era of Dreamworks again. One of the things that pains me about Sydney Pollack's early passing is that he was a producer who made it safe for adults to go to the movies. I feel similarly about the DW development execs of this timeframe who gave us pics like these, The Kite Runner and Road To Perdition.

Re-visited House Of Sand and Fog last night and this morning via Amazon Instant. What a sad, powerful piece of work. I bring a lot more to it this time around compared to 14 years ago--everything from greater awareness of the role that the Shah likely played in the reasons the Ben Kingsley's character and his family fled Iran to why it is that the Jennifer Connelly character became so estranged from her family that she couldn't just ask her mother for help (shame and guilt about the end of her marriage).

I forgot that James Horner scored this one and there's emotion here for me flowing from his music: I was saddened further at the awful climax of the film by left hand piano parts and bass in the score being similar to what James does to accompany the sinking of Titanic. Made me think of Horner's passing . . . and Bill Paxton's death. In a quintessential irony that pushes the analogy even further, the lawyer trying to help the Jennifer Connelly character is portrayed by . . . Frances Fisher.

Highly recommend this one to those who enjoy serious dramatic pieces such as Manchester By the Sea. Shot by none other than Roger Deakins.

Rented the DVD from Netflix to see the deleted scenes and hear (first-time director!) Vadim Perelman's commentary. Looking forward to that later this afternoon.

Mate, no one really cares about anime in this section of the forum. I certainly don't.

Some should never be on Blu-ray, unless if it's SD-on-BD, since they were shot in standard resolution. If a TV show were shot on film i.e. Mission: Impossible, M*A*S*H, Magnum P.I., etc. Don't want any upconversions.

I'm still angry that I have to take out a second mortgage if I want the Dragon Boxes.

No, I'm talking about recent shows like Elementary, Agents of SHIELD, Agent Carter, Over the Garden Wall, The Americans, Archer to name a few. I'm aware of how some shows were shot on video tape, so obviously any upgrade would be pointless. I'm also aware that with all the shows which were shot on film, a massive amount of work needs to be done to get them into high-def. But newer shows, which broadcast in high-def already don't have this excuse. The simple fact is that apparently high-def Blu-ray television releases simply do not sell, so they're going DVD only. And that's a blanking shame.

The examples go on and on. None of this is a mastering issue, it's a marketing issue. And sadly, they can't go Twilight Time and outsource it, not to mention the fact that they would need multiple discs.
