Default The Time Machine (2002)

The Time Machine (2002) with Guy Pearce.
I'm suprised this little underrated gem from 2002 hasn't hit blu-ray yet. Anyone know what's the hold-up? I got it on DVD. I really liked the soundtrack to this one.

It doesn't hold a candle to the original. I say bring on the original before this mediocre remake.

I would get this if / when it makes it to bluray. There is something about the first 10-15 minutes of the movie that grabs me (before the extended time travel). The Victorian setting with the snowfall, etc. just gives me a peaceful feeling. Well at least until

I liked the 2002 version of The Time Machine. I never saw the original and I only managed to see the 2002 version by chance, but ended up liking the film and I'll buy it as soon as it comes out on blu-ray. I'll see if I can rent the original soon or see if they will show it on TCM HD.

Here's a 1080p clip from the original that I uploaded a several months ago. Be advised that it does contain spoilers.

Thanks! I'll hold back on seeing it though as I don't want to see any spoilers. From what station did you get the HD version from? I'm weighing the options of renting the DVD or just waiting until it shows up again on an HD channel.

I didn't get it off a broadcast. I took the DVD and upconverted it to 1080p for the YouTube upload.

I'd take both versions on Blu-Ray. The original 60s movie is the best, but the '02 version would look smashing in high-def.

They should release BOTH as a 2 Disc Double Feature!! Both of the Time Machine movies are Awesome! The 2002 version had creature effects from Stan Winston! It was a really great movie and was made prior to all the CGI crap that goes on today.

Agree with above, but especially regarding the 1960 classic. I saw the original a few years back in HD on the HD Net. It was a stunner, so we know a great HD master is out there. Now we need Warner Bros. to do the right thing and get this released on Blu-Ray!

It's the 2002 film for me. Its production values, from photography to effects to sound, already being far superior makes it more enjoyable.

While it carried its own message, it was less preachy about it as opposed to the other's handling of war and being a sheeple society.

I also much more connected with Alexander Hartdegen as a character than with George. Alexander's motivations, the personal tragedy that propelled him, his obstinate pursuit of "what if," and personality as brought out perfectly by the amazing Guy Pearce are more reasons.

And above all, Klaus Badelt's beautiful musical score adds such tremendous replay value to this film, which I've watched and keep watching more times on DVD than any other movie I have on Blu-Ray. This remake needs to come out on Blu-Ray soon!

Would love to see this on Blu and I think both movies are good in their own right. The re-make has such a charm to it, the only thing that annoys me is Samantha Mumba is a bit annoying lol

Sorry to bump an old thread but is this available in any other countries? I've seen images that seem to indicate there is a blu-ray version but searching Amazon (for other countries) hasn't turned up anything. I guess the images could be fake. I really love the score/soundtrack to this one and would love to have it on blu-ray. I'm surprised it didn't get released at the same time the original was.

If this ever comes to Blu-ray, it'd be awesome if they would do a Director's Cut that includes the original "moon breaking up" scene. If I recall, the movie was done and then 9/11 happened and they ended up going back and reshooting the scene.
