I'd definitely pick this one up sometime down the line if I could get it for about $10.

Cineplex in Canada is screening Roman Holiday in theaters this week. I have no idea what print they are using, but I hoping it's newly restored for what they will be using for the inevitable blu ray. I might see it on Wednesday.

Yes I did. I thought it looked great, and I wanted to see it again the same week but something came up.

It has been newly restored over the last centennial DVD release for sure. Any of the dirt and damage from that release has been cleaned up. The level of detail on Audrey Hepburn's face was great to see on the big screen. A few odd shots didn't look so good as there appeared to be some mild usage of EE. The usual videophiles will probably complain, but I didn't think it was something to cause a fuss about.

As for the screening, it played very well with an audience even today. The seating was more than half full and everyone laughed at all the right moments, especially the fight sequence towards the end and all the Peck/Albert interactions. It was a great experience and glad I finally got to see Audrey Hepburn on the big screen for the first time. The best experience I've had watching the film after years on DVD.

This is ready for blu. Would be surprised if it wasn't released this year, especially considering the Anniversary and how a new master exists.

If I was a bettin' man, I'd wager big bucks that Warner will drop this sometime in Nov/Dec. They absolutely love putting out anniversary editions.

I was actually hoping to see Roman Holiday at Cineplex too, but my local Famous Players only has six screens so they never bring in the classics that Cineplex likes to run.

Chances are pretty good that Warner Bros. will issue an Audrey Hepburn set in 2014. Hepburn's highest grossing film "My Fair Lady" turns 50 and WB will want to re-release it on Blu (especially since the Paramount Blu was so bad).

WB got the distribution rights to "Roman Holiday", "Sabrina", "Funny Face", "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "War and Peace" and also owns the rights to "The Nun's Story" and "Wait Until Dark" so something will happen.

Sabrina, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany's and War and Peace have already been release on blu in the US or Overseas so the transfers are there.

2014!? I am dying here. I need Audrey NOW. A Warner Boxset would be pretty dandy though. I do not own a credit card so I cannot order her overseas releases. Must wait for store bought.

I dream about this movie coming to Blu-ray everyday. Every. Freaking. Day. It's just such a ringer of a film! My Blu-ray collection shall always be incomplete without it.
The dumbest character in cinematic history is not Jar Jar Binks. It's David Larrabee. I mean...who the hell overlooks Audrey Hepburn!?

Audrey's performance is my favorite by an actress. She's at her most charming.

I'll never understand why a movie like this isn't on Bluray, it just doesn't make any sense. Especially if there is a restored version that is being screened on big screens from time to time as mentioned above!!!

It seems to me the amount of classic movie releases is going down from a high of 2012 or 2013. Just looking back and thinking about all of my classic films, not counting Criterion which releases at a pretty regular basis, the major studio releases seem to be drying up.

I can imagine the sales numbers for a lot of films on Bluray are very small so maybe they are deciding its just not worth it. If thats the case they better at least start selling the rights to companies like Criterion that actually care about classic films.
