Question Anyone have some russian movie reccomendations?

Hi, just beginning to learn Russian and many people recommend to supplement watching movies in the native language you're trying to learn, but unfortunately it seems many Russian releases here only have English subtitles which doesn't help with learning vocabulary.

Anyone know some good movies to buy that have Russian & English subtitles that will ship to the US and links to buy them from?

I tried looking on ozon.ru but I just see a bunch of U.S. movies with Russian dubs which is not helpful.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You so much! I thought Елена was one too, but just realized it's English subs only.

I'm ordering all of these movies and hopefully there are more that can be found. Such a shame how rare English/Russian subtitle Russian movies are.

Russian manufacturers consider its blu-ray releases for domestic purpose mostly. So, they believe that russian viewers do not need any subs in russian movies.

Thanks for the info! but do they not consider the deaf & hard of hearing? Seems like all Russian movies should have Russian subs at the least for people with hearing disabilities.

Thanks for the links but I prefer to own physical copies and support companies who put out good products, I rip all my movies MKV's and put them on my plex server so I am "digital" in that sense but I prefer to own the physical copy as well. Cheers!

Damn Gold Disk is cheap but no international shipping Are there any Russian sites that ship internationally? BlurayMania.ru is costly compared to domestic ones.

Watching foreign language films with English subtitle is one thing but if one knows that language, cultural background, history is another experience. You actually get that meta references hidden in the dialogues and stories.

Just check this studio called 'Close Up' that frequently releases soviet classics :-

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?studioid=733

From 'Close Up' releases, I'd recommend-

Ivan Vasilievich- Back to the Future (1973)
Ballad of a Soldier (1959)
Kin-dza-dza! (1986)
Watch Out for the Automobile (1966)

Some Japanese label gets Russian language films on Blu-ray before any labels do like Stalker, Come and See and few more.

Hope you're aware of Criterion ,Artificial Eye, Eureka and BFI studios releases too..
