Yes. Noticeably missing in action. Come on, Sony. Excellent restoration effort for Godspell (1973), please.

Godspell is available in HD on Amazon Prime UK - although you do have to pay for it! Likewise, Sweet Charity is on Sky Movies HD and looks great - but then again so does the US release DVD. So maybe if there are HD masters out there there's still a chance?

"Sweet Charity" was released on DVD a few months after "The Best Little Wh0rehouse in Texas" so there is a chance, Universal usually follows a pattern, so maybe even this year

Yeah, that's like Jesus Christ Superstar: 6-track audio in cinemas, 2-track on Blu.

Could it be, as with JCS, lack of due care with the audio stems?

Possibly. Same studio, too. Universal Studios. And yet Xanadu remained relatively intact audio-wise. You may very well be right.

The Rocky Horror Show follow up movie, "Shock Treatment" would be great for the blu-ray market. This movie is finally finding a cult following. I'd love to see the vintage documentary "The Rocky Horror Treatment" on the blu-ray as well as the DVD extras and some interviews.

I agree. But while I love the quality of the audio on Xanadu, it's still sad to me that someone had the nerve to cut out many of the surround sound effects. I saw this 12 times in Minneapolis at the downtown Skyway theater when it came out and had the MCA Discovision laserdisc when it came out followed by the laserdisc widerscreen version so I know this soundtrack inside and out and they ruined some of the best surround effects in Xanadu by totally removing them. How I wish they had kept the old surround track, but it seemed to change when they released the anniversary edition DVD. Very sad.

Lots of news I am surprised not to see here, Warner Archive's announcement of Victor/Victoria and Unsinkable Molly Brown coming in a month (YAHOOOOO 2 fantastic musicals now in HD and lossless), and the recent pre-order page on Amazon France for Sweet Charity on Blu-ray. I really hope this is an indication that Universal will announce Sweet Charity, Flower Drum Song and Thoroughly Modern Millie for release on blu-ray here in the USA. Universal has upped it's catalog releases, though most of the titles have been 70's or 80's titles (Jaws 2,3,4, Airport films, Xanadu, Best Little *****house), but hopefully they will start on some of their 60's films. Millie became Universal's top grossing movie of all time when it was released. I have been writing to Universal every month for 3-4 years about Millie, Flower Drum and Charity. Keeping my fingers crossed. Three fantastic musicals with beautifuly recording stereo soundtracks,.

Then Robert, many thanks indeed for being the water constantly dripping on the stone. I hope we're about to see the fruits of your efforts.

In the short term, I'm delighted to see the arrival of the film of Victor/Victoria on Blu.

OMG. Robert, did you just say that Unsinkable Molly Brown and Victor/Victoria are on their way to blu-ray? Oh happy day! I share your hope that Flower Drum Song, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and the rest are not too long to follow. But if they receive the attention that's been showed to many of the musicals that have made it to HD thus far, the wait will be worth it (but hopefully not too many years longer!)

-Dave
LOSSLESS audio... something that belongs on EVERY Blu-ray Disc. Every one.

If it's not 1.5 screen widths, it's not "Home Theater" -it's TV.

I made a discovery by chance today when browsing Amazon UK....Miss Saigon has been taped on the stage for video and is on its way to blu-ray. YAY another live musical performance of a great show. I saw this when it first hit Broadway and just loved it. I wish Lea Salonga was in this version though, but she's probably too old although she does look very young yet.
