Quote:
German distributors Koch Media have officially announced that they will release on Blu-ray Australian director Peter Weir's The Last Wave a.k.a Black Rain (1977), starring Richard Chamberlain, Olivia Hamnett and David Gulpilil. The Blu-ray will be available for purchase in Germany on July 27th.

Special Features:
Trailer
Bildergalerie mit seltenem Werbematerial (Stills and rare promo materials)

Richard Chamberlain stars as Australian lawyer David Burton, who takes on the defense of a group of aborigines accused of killing one of their own. He suspects the victim has been killed for violating a tribal taboo, but the defendants deny any tribal association. Burton, plagued by apocalyptic visions of war, slowly realized his own involvement with the aborigines...and their prophecies.

Note: In the U.S., The Last Wave is currently available only on DVD, courtesy of Criterion.

another title that Criterion has the rights to coming out elsewhere first.
I think there must be at least 35 such titles at this point.
I just wish Criterion would release their versions in a more timely manner--like they STILL haven't released Picnic at Hanging Rock, which has been out in the Uk for over 2 years now I think.
They did do well with Children of Paradise, as it is coming out almost exactly with the other bds elsewhere.
Anyway, this is a great film so I hope this bd turns out ok.
Koch has done a good job on a number of US studio classics, and is probably my favorite German label.

Preordered! I'm glad there's a market in France and Germany for films that won't get a release in the UK, let alone the US.

I feel very confident Criterion will release this on blu-ray in the US eventually.
It's simply a matter of when.

I haven't checked it myself but it appears to be region B only.

I'd love to see Blu-ray.com reviews of The Last Wave, and a bunch of other Studio Canal's latest releases, such as The Ice Storm,Homo Fiber,Kinski/Herzog edition (Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes,Fitzcarraldo and Cobra Verde will have English audio track as well) etc.
