I'm getting no signal from the art cleanboxpro using unbalanced RCA in to RCA out. Am I suppose to be using XLR connectors ?

Yes. I believe the RCA outs on the back are for going from an XLR to RCA connection. Someone will have to double check that to be safe though I am sure that is what it is

Seems like I should just get an XLR female to male cable since the XLS1500 has the XLR inputs

Yes, the box either goes from XLR to RCA or RCA to XLR, no pass through for same type connections.

Yikes, you check out the nails on his right hand? They were super long and THICK. Maybe he should've used them to rip holes in the binding posts :P
