Sony paper just released at the FCC DSTAC (Downloadable Security Technical Advisory Committee)

Notice in the picture on page 12 that the PS3 is pictured. This confirms Vidipath is coming to the PS3 and I assume the PS4 as it's a more DRM secure hardware design. This means the PS3 DRM core and player are being rewritten to support Vidipath and Playready...updated DLNA to Vidipath DLNA 2 standards. See here: http://vidipath.com/guidelines/ Everything required in the Vidipath Guide should be supported by the PS3 and I suspect HEVC also.

Playready coming to the PS3 and PS4

When though? It looks like Playready 2.5 and Playready 3 (which hasn't been released yet) are necessary for the PS3 and PS4 respectively. October maybe?

HEVC is a codec and the PS3 should have the horsepower to decode it.

Am I losing my mind? Didn't it always ask if you wanted to update via Internet or via media storage when you clicked system update?

Mine seems to be skipping this and just giving me the internet option which would be fine but it just keeps getting stuck at 99%...

I've got the file on the USB stick under PS3>UPDATE all ready to go...?

If it isn't giving you the option then you can go in to safe mode and update via USB from there I think. Not at the console right now so can't check.
Who cares if one more light goes out
In the sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out
If a moment is all we are
Or quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out...
Well I do!

It amazes me that to this day you still can't get rid of the Singstar icon on the menu.

That's a Europe-only thing. Other regions don't have that.

I was going to say that I have never seen a Singstar icon on my PS4, but I also thought maybe that it was just because I never installed Singstar. Is that something that is present on the menu for everyone regardless of whether they installed the software or not?!?!

It was part of a PS3 system update a while ago, it tied it with the release of singstar that let you use your mobile phone as a mic. It's been there ever since. You can't delete it.

I hate it when icons get forced onto your menu that you can't remove. Not that I use my PS3 much these days, but it's like Sony forgot to remove it once the game had been out for a while

If it's only EU, then the rest of the world is lucky!
