Yes. I forgot about that Eaton release. Blue Underground released THE GIRL FROM RIO and MILLION EYES OF SUMURU on a double feature. RIO got a release because of Jess Franco. Neither film is very good... which makes it even more maddening. Both also had already perfectly reasonable DVD releases.

The other release was CIRCUS OF FEAR / FIVE GOLDEN DRAGONS. Those weren't spy films, though DRAGONS features Margret Lee who appeared in many Eurospies.

Gaumont France released Blus for a few of the original OSS 117 films. I have MISSION FOR A KILLER and TERROR IN TOKYO, and I think PANIC IN BANGKOK is also English-friendly.

There's also a UK Blu of DEADLIER THAN THE MALE from Network.

Yes. I have that Network DEADLIER THAN THE MALE.

We're still really just scratching the surface here. Just off the top of my head and in 1966 alone there's KISS THE GIRLS AND MAKE THEM DIE, KISS KISS BANG BANG, SPECIAL MISSION LADY CHAPLIN, SPIES STRIKE SILENTLY, TARGET FOR KILLING... all of which are certainly worth watching.

The Kommissar films had a box set (now OOP and crazy expensive) and a smattering of German releases. The Region 1 Kommissar set looks like someone recorded the movies on VHS from a TV broadcast.

Cult Films and Something Weird make BOD discs, but they're almost unwatchable. I have no idea about the availability of the films or the state of the prints. I just know that it's a genre that never gets any respect compared to horror, spaghetti westerns, etc. that came out of Europe during the this same late-60's time period.

Just idle thoughts. The sorry condition of these films has been on my mind lately as I've been hosting live tweets for a bunch of these Eurospy films this month with #Bond_age_ - http://thejamesbondsocialmediaprojec...retrospective/.
Not really an interest of mine, can't speak for anyone else at MM. But I can tell you this: they won't sell.

Nothing sells but horror.

That's exactly what I figured. I was more or less just curious whether Eurospy had ever even been considered as part of the wild and wonderful world cinema.

I used to think it was pretty cool that we got all these weird, low budget and niche horror movies on Blu-ray. Now, however, it's just become aggravating because so many other great genre films are being left to rot because nothing but horror sells. It's the same refrain in every thread. Though Arrow seems to do okay with second-tier spaghetti westerns.

That frustration came to a head last week when I watched Scorpion's KILLERFISH release... it looked f'ing amazing and the movie is just so not worth the effort. It's barely worth the effort to sit on a couch and watch it. There are hardly even any killer fish. It's a pretty terrible heist movie with slightly annoyed fish.

I completely understand the realities of the business, but goddamn, I've seen some absolute shit horror movies on Blu-ray that look like a million bucks and I can't even find watchable copies of some excellent Eurospy films. At least I can always count on Mondo to release interesting flicks, horror or otherwise.

Anyway... back to your regularly scheduled thread. [/Rant]

The very idea of Cat. III films hitting HD gets me really... excited. (I know. it is just an idea, at the moment).

Another film that I think would fit well in the Wild Side of World Cinema is Albino (1976)

Haha, don't know this movie, but it sounds pretty entertaining. But it also sounds extraordinarily racist, so no chance of us doing it!

Shame. It's quality trash cinema

I advise you to pick up the German dvd if you're curious. The extras disc isn't English friendly, though.

Just when you think you've got a good handle on the Christopher Lee filmography... up pops something like this. The man was a marvel.

There's also an old Media VHS, which is how I first saw it!

@Jared A.

Hope you don't decide to release the same Naschy movies that are available from Subkultur, the English friendly ones I mean.

We are gonna look into some 80s HK horror, a huge area of interest for both Pete and myself. Cross your fingers!
Isn't NURSE DIARY BEAST AFTERNOON, due in Nov, the first title of the second wave?

Any interest in releasing more of Akio Jissoji's genre films? He has a remake of Watcher in the Attic, and another horror film called Murder on D Street.

Are those films difficult/expensive to license?

Sounds like there are more than just one...this is really nice to hear.

Been enjoying Vinegar Syndrome's Naschy Blu that just came out, it's a beautiful release. Mondo's blu's have been excellent, so having some Naschy getting the Macabro treatment is exciting.

YES PLEASE!

Shuji Terayama, Yoshihiko Matsui, and more Akio Jissoji make up my wishlist on Japanese filmmakers needing home video releases.

Outside of Jose Mojica Marins (Coffin Joe), there is some crazy Brazilian cinema from the 60s/70s to go after from Julio Bressane and Rogerio Sganzerla.

Would love some Hong Kong stuff. Wonder if Dangerous Encounters of the First Kind is too extreme?

And of course, my #1 want is some Kim Ki-young.
