Same, In fact as a kid I think I started to develop my early understanding of Leprosy from the film. Granted the dub DOES call them "lepers". But if I recall correctly Miyazaki also kept a close watch on the production of the English release specifically for that film to make sure they didn't change stuff. So it's pretty safe to say they knew what they were saying.

When Marnie Was There and The Secret World Of Arrietty director Hiromasa Yonebayashi said in an interview with The Associated Press that his next project might be a Studio Ghibli work. However, he declined to share any details on what this project might be.

Yonebayashi left the staff of Studio Ghibli at the end of 2014. He stated that he would like to continue to make works, and he would like his next film to be the "opposite" of Marnie.

When Marnie Was There was nominated for the Best Animated Feature Award at the 88th Academy Awards. Yonebayashi will attend the February 28 ceremony in Los Angeles and wear a tuxedo provided by Studio Ghibli.

"I feel extremely honored," Yonebayashi said. "The legacy and the trust that Studio Ghibli built over the years and the works we have created with members of our team won a positive evaluation."

When asked about what he's learned about animation from Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, Yonebayashi answered, "It's everything. Movement, the way to think when drawing a picture, how to draw a line, everything. They all became part of me."

This may be an odd question, but is there any way I can run a seperate subtitle track on a US version of a Ghibli movie? For example, since Monoke has dubtitles, I would still like to view my US copy, but with a separate downloaded subtitle track. I would be doing this over a DVD on my MacBook. I hope I'm being clear enough!

I assume if your software can play the US Ghibli disc and you can find external subtitles to go with them they should work. My software doesn't like the US Ghibli disc ,but I do watch my imported Hols Prince of the Sun, Chie the Brat, and Anne of Green Gables Blu-rays on my Macbook pro with external English subtitles.

Is there a certain program I need to have to run them simutaneously?

I actually do not have an external blu-ray player so I'm just playing a DVD in the disc drive.

Edit: Also, what's the best website to get subtitles? I'm new to this haha

Just google X.srt. X = name of movie. example mononoke.srt

Since you want to play a DVD you can just use VLC media player.

You might also want to check your local library to see if they have the Miramax Mononoke DVD which had correct subtitles.

Well, the general US theatrical release begins February 26, so it will most likely be at least 3-4 months after that...

If it had a lesbian theme to it, it would probably release sooner...

Turns out Ghibli asked Disney if they could have the rights to Only Yesterday back and Disney agreed to return them because Disney had no intention of releasing it.

Default Detective Work

Something curious I've come across;
So as we know, the Miyazaki boxset edition of all the films contain a higher bitrate through this MGVC encoding (that nobody can really use yet anyway), however I just found a source pre-dating the box by about a year saying that the Ghibli releases (or at least some) already utilise this MGVC stuff.

If that's the case, how come the comparison data (that's hidden somewhere in a thread here I saw some time back) doesn't seem to express this or note the MGVC encoding unlike the data for the box versions?
Does anyone super knowledgeable in the releases and encoding give some insight? I've spent years trying to decide which editions to get, and if it turns out the "improved" boxset versions are identical in the end anyway (bar Nausicaa's transfer) that might make my decision easier

That said, I do wish they'd re-release the discs individually with the new encoding (and new Nausicaa transfer) in new editions if they are in fact higher bitrate as I'd really prefer those ones. While they're at it they can add the dubs in for the newer ones that had a dub available within a short period of time around the BD release where it clearly would have been available to release (not that I need the dubs, but they're nice to have for friends and nostalgia- if it's on most might as well have it on all where applicable).

EDIT: It's 4am and I may have done goofed in regards to this because I just remembered the actual file sizes are different on the discs so they're definitely not the same file. Damn. Re-release plz Disney JP

Well, most if not all the Studio Ghibli silhouette singles are authored with MGVC as well, but that is something we will never be able to use. MGVC is a proprietary format developed by Panasonic, and is available on only a select few players of theirs, and only in Japan. MGVC is not part of the Blu-ray spec, and I'm sure there are no plans to bring the technology outside of Japan. With UHD/4K on the near horizon, the effort would be moot anyway, as those formats will have equivalent or even higher color and saturation rates than MGVC.

First time I'm hearing about MGVC encoding, does it make a significant difference when watching the JP Ghibli releases on a player that takes advantage of this?
