This sequence of drawings is meant to illustrate part of my theory.

As I have stated, I believe that ArriVision's problems with chromatic aberration were more pronounced in the shorter focal lengths. If that be so, then the creative team surely would have favored longer lenses. But 55mm might have been a mite too long for most purposes, so I deduce (rightly or wrongly) that they would have favored the 40mm lens.

But using a 40mm lens would still have meant placing the camera a fair distance away from the subject, and it would have resulted in magnifying the parallax. So I believe the creative team gave themselves permission to "transgress" the plane of the screen in ordinary, non-gimmick dialogue shots. Even so, parallax values were certainly "maxed out." As we have all seen by now, many shots in Jaws 3-D have a ton of parallax, both positive and negative.

To underscore, all this is strictly a theory. I do not absolutely know for sure that this is what happened. I won't mind learning the truth, even if it should happen to contradict the conclusions I present here. These drawings are simply meant to illustrate my present perspective.

I haven't seen this since it's theatrical release, but I totally forgot the end freeze frame image before the credits - oh my god that was so goddamn hokey.

Having finally watched this last week, I rather enjoyed it. The movie in 3D elevates it to a fun, if not extremely cheezy film. I have seen it a few times in 2D , and once in 3D in the theater when it first came out.
The transfer could be better for sure, but the grain never bothered me. If I remember correctly the movie has never looked very good, showing signs of softness and heavy grain.
The pop-outs were fun, but for me the shots that made me go wow were the shots angled at water level stretching back. They looked incredible !!
I never felt eye strain, although I'm sitting a good 10ft back from a 65in screen.
I will say after the film it took a few minutes for my eyes to adjust after the viewing.
For a $9 3D Blu I'm very happy with the purchase.

I pre-ordered this on Amazon.ca when it first went up. The day of release the shipping date was indicated as being middle of July. The last potential shipping day indicated (July 19) rolls around and it gets updated to mid August. wtf

I had pre-ordered and only, finally received mine on Wednesday. At the time of my preorder, a region B release hadn't even been announced (and they often never happen), but by the time I finally get it, I could've just walked into a shop and bought it. I sympathise.

Only had a chance to skim it so far. Looks like some fun stuff, but the grain issue isn't understated.

I cancelled my US pre-order so I could get the UK box set with Jaws 2 and Jaws The Revenge - sadly (and for no good reason) it's been bumped back to late August so I'm going to be one of the last ones to this party...

Yeah I was going to get that but sadly I just could not wait any longer sad I know but I love the Whole Jaws film series. Strange as I am still waiting for Star Wars: The Force Awakens 3D.

It's going to be a Sainsbury's Exclusive for a couple of weeks I heard. That may be why it's been bumped to late August.

The oddest thing about this 3d release is the fact that there is no 'Bluray 3D' logo anywhere on the package, the 3d movie is just an extra. I would bet this gets watched in 3d more than 2d.

Jaws 2 and Jaws 3D were delivered yesterday. I tested Jaws 3D and the 3D was outstanding. It really put some new films in 3D to shame.

One has to watch the vintage, classic 3-D films to gain perspective on the 1980s 3-D revival, and one has to watch both the vintage classic 3-D films and the 1980s 3-D revival films to gain perspective on the current application of the technology.

Well said, Richard.

Most of the 3D classics knew how to offer consistently strong 3D without holding back
[Show spoiler] (unlike most of Pixar's milder 3D films for example)
. The vintage examples of strong 3D cinema are still valid today as proven by Jaws 3D, and hopefully more modern filmmakers will aim for such effective and exciting 3D whether in their 3D conversion budget or filmed 3D.

In contrast to the mild, "almost 2D" 3D efforts we've seen from time to time, the more often we're given consistently strong 3D in theaters, the better the future of 3D will be as the word of mouth spreads that there is something worth experiencing in stereo 3D.

Ha I did the same, worth the wait for a better price for all 3 movies, and it takes up less space on the shelf.

EDIT: Although I just noticed HMV website has it listed as being released yesterday, so maybe they already have it in stock.

Just got done with watching Jaws 3D. The 3D was great. It really does put new 3D films to shame. So happy that I finally got to see this in 3D.

Apparently that UK set is a Sainsburys Exclusive until 22 August. So it should be available in Sainsburys now. I'm going to drop by hmv on my way to my train and if no copies there I'll head over to sainsburys when I get home.

I picked up my 3 movie set in Sainsbury's yesterday for 15, for any UK people I recommend going to your nearest Sainsbury's.
