In all likelihood, this is a fresh 2K master, and a very good one, but not as good as 4K master of Titanic or many such past films remastered in 4K. Colours are great, but detail is not much of an improvement. In close shots the faces lack detail and look waxy smooth. The framing is almost the same as the laserdisc one, that is- more image than the last BD release(both vertically and horizontally), though some cG shots have been zoomed into a bit, cutting off horizontal info at the edges.
Still looks good enough.
As for the 2D version, I think it will only be a repackaging of the initial BD release, and not from the new master, but I may be wrong.

P.S: My opinion on the image is based on the New trailer and some still shots available from the websites.

That stinks. Thanks for the news even so. His attention to detail is what made Titanic's 3D as strong as it is.

Good scene, yes. I can't think of another one for pop outs but don't want to re-watch it until the 3D movie hits in April.

"Decent 3D conversion" will hopefully be replaced by "STRONG 3D Conversion" after you get a chance to see the new 3D trailer in theaters. This has the strong 3D as seen in Titanic's awesome conversion. It looks like it was filmed in 3D IMO.

A must see in 3D.
Another one to keep an out of for strong 3D conversions would be GI Joe Retaliation if one can believe that. Strong 3D.

Jurassic Park 3D Blu Ray is announced, but no new documentaries, about the restoration, or anything else either! Universal really plays it cheap, look at what Warner does, or even Spielberg's other movies get the love, while Jurassic Park gets played as cheap as it could be played! They had to do a remaster, otherwise the 3D conversion wouldn't work, so they did that, and nothing more. Really sad! Would've been great to see a doc about the restoration, and a couple of deleted scenes as a special feature? But Universal once again plays cheap!!!

P.S.- The older Bonus materials are being ported over.

Thanks for the info. It's still early before the release, so there is a slight chance they may announce a special 3D featurette when they have the art work together.

The standard version of Titanic 3D didn't have any bonuses at all sadly on the conversion process.

I sent out an email to Universal Home Entertainment expressing my disappointment in the recycling of the 2011 transfer for the upcoming 2D disc in the Jurassic Park 3D/2D combo pack. This was their response:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting us.

The 2011 "Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy" Blu-ray release is based on remastered source material developed under the auspices and with the direct approval of the filmmakers. Extensive efforts went into the remastering process, and the differences between this Blu-ray release and our original DVD release are dramatic. The same remastered materials will be used for our upcoming DVD and 2D Blu-ray release.

We will forward your comments to the appropriate department.

Again, thank you.

Sincerely,

Consumer Relations

The same lazy cheap way Paramount did with Top Gun 3D, brand new great transfer only used for the 3D version

Hey guys this is new! Gary Rydstrom is remastering Jurassic Park's soundtrack for the 3D re-release Here's a snipet from the interview-

"You collaborate with Spielberg on one project after another, and they're all so different, it must be like working with a lot of different directors, stylistically, with the benefit of not having to get to know so many new ones. In the last few weeks, I also was working on a remastering of "Jurassic Park," because they're re-releasing that in 3D. And I worked on that 20 years ago, so the fact that Steven Spielberg will make both "Jurassic Park" and "Lincoln" in his career is pretty amazing.
So he's a good guy for someone like me to work with, because he doesn't make the same movie over and over again.
Are you doing a different mix for "Jurassic Park"? No. My philosophy with old sound work is, we can update it, make it a little bit bigger, more dynamic, do a little more panning. But the content of the sound mix is the same.
We did update for today's technology, using somewhat the excuse that 3D pushes that movie into a different territory. Maybe it's a little more spatial and intense, but it's not a different mix at all, just enhanced.
But boy, it was fun to go back and revisit. And it was fun to be doing that around the same time we were thinking about "Lincoln." So, I got to do my clock ticks for Lincoln, and as long as I got to do a T. rex roar for "Jurassic," too, I was happy."

Yes thank you for that! With Titanic 3D last year doing a similar thing, I just KNEW they'd remaster it for Jurassic Park! Just hope they don't over compress (crank-up-the-volume wise) the entire score. Surely they'll include more score pieces or expand on the original release. And all the more faithful that it's the original person who's mastered it to begin with.

I'm going crazy just waiting to see this movie again on the big screen for the first time in 20 years! I saw it 3 times in '93.

From what I've heard Spielberg say in the past, he isn't too keen on changing any scenes in any of his movies. Apparently he changed something in the end of E.T. and I remember him saying that he regretted it. I can't remember what it was, I was never a huge E.T. fan.

I'll put spoilers on all of this since it's technically a bit off-topic:

[Show spoiler]In the 2002 re-release of the film, several things were touched up digitally, along with the addition of some scenes. The most controversial change was the replacement of guns with walkie-talkies in the hands of the agents that were chasing Elliot and his friends.

Spielberg later said that he regretted the changes, that the original version of E.T. was the preferred version, and that he wouldn't be making any more digital alterations to any of his films.

Quote:
When people ask me which E.T. they should look at, I always tell them to look at the original 1982 E.T. If you notice, when we did put out E.T. we put out two E.T.s. We put out the digitally enhanced version with the additional scenes and for no extra money, in the same package, we put out the original Ď82 version. I always tell people to go back to the í82 version.
Quote:
(In the future) thereís going to be no more digital enhancements or digital additions to anything based on any film I direct. Iím not going to do any corrections digitally to even wires that show.

If 1941 comes on Blu-Ray Iím not going to go back and take the wires out because the Blu-Ray will bring the wires out that are guiding the airplane down Hollywood Blvd. At this point right now I think letting movies exist in the era, with all the flaws and all of the flourishes, is a wonderful way to mark time and mark history.
Spielberg speaks! Jaws Blu-Ray in the works with no "digital corrections!"

Based upon that, the Jurassic Park we all know and love should be safe.

Ah, you found it. Yeah now that I see that I remember thats exactly what I read about E.T. Although I'm happy Jurassic Park will remain as unchanged as possible I have to admit I always wished they would
[Show spoiler]get rid of the Swanee whistle sound when Nedry falls down the hill. Its so cartoonish and just takes away from the serious tone of Jurassic Park. Also there is a wire above the dilophosaurs head when the frill first comes out that you can see pretty clearly and although Spielberg doesn't want to take out wires I just hope that this isn't going to pop out extensively because of the 3D.

I'm shocked they haven't talked about converting this one yet. I think it would be great also.

You've got to love SouthPark..

I think they addressed the alteration topic well.

EDIT: And Back to The Future in 3D would be awesome. My wife would go crazy over it, she loves that movie!
