So am I missing anything from the other Alien dvd/blu rays?

I'd ask for the OP to be updated with a big, bold "THEY'RE ALL THE SAME DISCS," but no one reads the OP either.

The Anthology does not include a Digital for any of the films. I won't double-dip because the only difference is swag but the 35th Anniv packaging says it has a Digital/uv copy included.

The math doesn't work though:
The Disc Included In The 35th Anniversary Package Is The Same Disc That Is In The Anthology Box Set ported over with a few new swag items included in the package - Alien 35th Anniversary

The Alien Anthology is 6 Discs and full of every Alien extra ever created, all ported over from previous releases for 34.00 - Alien Anthology

The Blu-ray.com Review: Alien-Anthology

Imo, the lack of a digital copy should not keep anyone from buying this set unless the 1st film is the only one you like or the lack of a Digital copy is a complete deal breaker.

Does anyone know of any really wide high res screens or art that would look good printed out as backgrounds? Planning on doing an Aliens shelf with all my figures and stuff, like 45" across. If not how exactly do you get a screengrab from the movies that are super high res and not just a simple print screen style copy? Thanks for any help.

Check out necaonline.com. News section at the top, downloads, diorama downloads for some backgrounds for Alien and Aliens. They are meant to be placed behind the figures. Pretty high resolution and looks great printed on quality paper.

Thanks for the link. The floor grates are perfect for the bottom. Although the backgrounds arent as good as I would have liked. I'm shocked they dont have the classic alien hive wall there. So many of these seem to be angle changes. Wont be able to seamlessly link them to go across the back. Well, halfway is good so far!

I don't mean to, uh..., but as someone that has neither the time nor the inclination to sort through almost 700 pages of material to find out one small detail, I feel compelled to bring it back up.

I'm aware via my own observations at stores that there are two slightly different releases of the 6-disc Anthology. I've held many copies in my hands, ready to take the plunge, but have held off in favor of other films I don't already own (I have all four of the 2003 Special Edition DVDs). Anywho, I noticed at Best Buy a few years ago that a slightly slimmer version had appeared, and a few of the older copies were on the shelf behind it. Comparing the two, it was obvious that the newer slim version (as it has been called on this thread) was much less sturdy in feel, if not necessarily practice.

All I'm asking for is a detailed comparison of the two versions, preferably in photos, but I'll take a written dissertation as well (preferably by someone that has interacted with both sets without shrink wrap). If such a comparison has been made in a different part of this thread, please point me to it. I scanned several pages but the most I ever got was bits and pieces before the discussion would inevitably move to which films people preferred, people asking which set they should get and the transfers. I want the Anthology and plan on biting very soon. I'm just wondering if it would be worth my while to track down the older version of the digibook.
I would continue this battle of wits with you but I can see that you're unarmed.

It's been noted several times starting around Christmas 2013 that Fox went to a thinner style packaging. The only differences I can remember is that the individual pages were a thinner cardboard therefore the less sturdy/more flexible feel.

I know there were some pictures some in the thread and a think on Amazon itself either in the item pics or reviews. I'll see if I can find them if someone else doesn't get them first. unfortunately the Amazon pics have teh US set and pics of the 2 different UK style sets (original Digipack foldout and the later Amaray style) mixed in leading to all sorts of confusion.

Seems I own the reissue, although the set still feels pretty nice and sturdy. Haven't seen the original version around here actually, I believe.

I have those sets too but the bluray is so much better in every way. Just the extras alone is worth the purchase.

It's still pretty sturdy -- it's just side by side if you have both in hand where the original is just bigger/harder/heavier.

I really don't understand why "it's thinner" isn't an adequate report. Of course I also don't get how fans exist that don't own this yet, considering it has been $20 numerous times.

If it was a new issue it would be dependant on why it's thinner -- did they take out something, did they change the internal storage, is it missing a bonuse disc.

Since this is an old issue, we know that in this situation it's that they just decreased the thickness of the cardboard and everything else is the same. If they hadn't been able to find the original discussion and since it's not really documented in the database (well or at all). At least it's not a question that has been asked/answered 3-4 times in the last couple pages like so many of the headbanging questions around here which are often answered on the same forum page.

That's actually what I was wondering. I can handle that it's thinner, I was just wondering if anything major was changed besides the cardboard stock. No doubt the slim version was created to lessen the manufacturing costs given the more recent price point. It also doesn't help matters that most of the slim copies I see in stores these days are often caved in or otherwise damaged, which keeps me from taking the plunge. I'm likewise afraid to order from Amazon given the stories of receiving the wrong version on this thread, not to mention that about 50% of the digipak items I receive from them are in less than perfect condition (still love the store, though).
I would continue this battle of wits with you but I can see that you're unarmed.

Well, pardon the hell out of me. I just wanted more details than a sentence fragment to go on (I'm primarily a visual kind of guy). As for fans that don't own this release, I'm definitely one of them, but that's partly because the Alien series has been rather low on my list of Must-Haves since getting a Blu-ray player. As I also said in my original post, I try to use most of my movie money to get films I don't already own, even if they aren't in HD. Don't get me wrong, I love the first two Alien films wholly, love elements of the third but find it a bit dull, and love elements of the fourth but find it a bit silly. But it's hard for me to justify spending even $20.00 on an admittedly marvelous set of films I already have when there's other films sitting on the same shelf that I don't have for close to or exceeding the same price. I also like to eat, enjoy utilities like running water and electricity, and am required to pay taxes, all of which take from the same pool that potential Alien money hails from (believe it or not). 6x the resolution of DVD might be nifty, but it's not essential for me to enjoy a film if I have other means of access already.

Still, I want this set and will get it soon. It just hasn't been in the cards for me yet. Sorry if that makes me a "bad fan" or something.
I would continue this battle of wits with you but I can see that you're unarmed.
