Can't wait for my Zavii steelbook with the iconic artwork.

Glad I didn't buy the normal edition before so that I can get the steelbook without worrying how I should get rid of the old one.

I don't think any New Line films that have had a blu ray release have been re-released and BN seems to be one of the better ones both in terms of picture/audio quality as well as the extras.

PTA seems to have abandoned the very concept of bonus materials for his later films.

I thought that artwork was just horrible even if it is the "iconic artwork"!

I might have bought it had it not been something like Scooby Doo.

Making-of featurettes are the most important component of good special features for me. I want to hear the actors/directors/critics talk about the story in a way that gives me new insight into the film.

Director's commentary is cool, but usually only use it once then never again.

...don't really care about deleted scenes.

...they were usually deleted for a good reason.

Has it really been almost 20 years since this came out? I remember like yesterday seeing this at the theater!

Personally, I think every single deleted scene from this movie is pure gold. But, the movie already weighed in at over 2 and a half hours, so I can understand that something had to go.
"Does the Blu-ray version of '.......' look better than it's DVD version?"

I'm so sick of this question. 99% of Blu-rays look better than their DVD counterpart. Period.

I'm going to have to go back and watch the deleted scenes again. It has been a long time. I know I had watched the movie so many times I wanted to give it a rest for a few years.
Stop the Replacing of original Studio Opening / Closing logos! These are becoming endangered and should be kept intact. They are part of film history.

Have you seen the deleted scenes for Boogie Nights? They're great and tremendously entertaining, some as good as anything that made the final cut. They were cut for pacing reasons mostly, and understandably. The movie is definitely better without them, but I'm so happy that we have them to enjoy.

My local Alamo showed this back in January I think. What an experience to finally watch this classic on the big screen. My local art house theater is showing it next month, can't wait to go again.

The movie that made his career and is still his best? I wouldn't doubt it

You don't have to wait till next month to see it again! You've got the Blu-ray at home, you can watch it anytime you want.

They're pretty good, but I just don't get much out of watching a hodgepodge collection of disjointed scenes that have little to no context because they're not in the movie.

If I have to choose between a great making-of featurette and/or retrospective or great deleted scenes, the choice is pretty easy.

Anyone know the differences between the Canadian Blu-Ray and the American Blu-Ray?

I live in the US and ordered the Blu-Ray on ebay from a US seller, yet got the Canadian release haha. It all plays fine but I'm curious of any differences between the two Blu-Rays, other than some french translations on the case.

No difference. It's the same disc. One's put out by Warner and the other by Alliance.

There are more deleted scenes that weren't included that I'd like to see on a new edition. I know Dirk getting "ready" for the shoot in the bathroom was cut for the ratings board and Little Bill's wife getting shot was deemed too disturbing by PTA and taken out. There was also a scene after the shootout at Rahad's where Dirk goes to his parent's house and finds Cheryll Ann and her husband are living there because his parents were killed by the car Johhny Doe was driving (the accident that killed him that's referenced in the Becky deleted scene)

I'm only 18 years late to the party, but I just watched this movie for the first time this morning. Loved it! Still need to go through the special features. Like the poster above, I bought it on eBay not knowing that I was buying a Canadian release. I'm glad to learn that there isn't any difference from the US release.

All of the actors were fantastic in this! I do remember that there was a little bit of a stir over this movie during the Academy Awards ceremony. Now I see why. So glad I finally got to see it.
So many blurays, so little time.

Re-watched Boogie Nights a while back, and while I think it's the most "commercial & mainstream" of all PTA's films, that's not a bad thing. Really enjoyed the late '70's/early '80's setting, music, attitudes, fashion, etc. I was a kid during this time period, but remember the era extremely well. As with all good movies that take place during an earlier ere, in BN you really felt like you were back in that time period when watching the film.

My favorite scene was when Dirk & his two friends went to buy some drugs from the quirky Alfred Molina character - all while the iconic song "Sister Christian" was playing in the background, and that kid was lighting fire-crackers for no reason; the ensuing shoot-out was extremely well-done. This is definitely one the best choreographed scenes in any film I've seen. I believe this scene was "inspired" by a real-life similar incident which happened in the early '80's; this was the focus of the 2003 film Wonderland (starring Val Kilmer).

The theme of "wanting to belong" was very strong in this film; Dirk Diggler was rejected by his family (primarily his mother), and ending up finding another "family" in the adult industry. This idea of wanting to find a group to belong to is a running theme in many other PTA films as well, notably Magnolia, The Master, and There Will Be Blood.
