A sad shout-out to my fellow Winnipegger.

From wikipedia:

"Toombs was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on April 17, 1954[3] and was raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba... He attended Windsor Park Collegiate...By the age of 15, he made his professional wrestling debut in Winnipeg against Larry Hennig. When Roddy made his way to the ring playing the bagpipes, the ring-announcer introduced him as "Roddy the Piper", the fans in attendance heard it as "Roddy Piper" and the name stuck."

I don't get this mentality of only caring about someones work just after death occurs.

not sure if it's caring about someone's work vs. wanting a piece of nostalgia to remember the artist by...

it's always been that way... movies/movie memorabilia, cd's, sports memorabilia, etc. all have a surge in sales when a death occurs....

Very sad. At one point in the They Live commentary he talks about how wrestling has some of the highest premature death rates and how some wrestler had just died during the week they recorded the commentary.

If it's not some sort of drug overdose, then usually it's the aftereffects of 80s steroids which has effects on the heart. I think Piper once talked about his using them, as every wrestler did in the 80s.

I don't think it's 99% anymore. It's more like 50%? The WWE travelling schedule in particular these days is much less rigorous than it used to be, so there is actually more time for body training now. Obviously the need to bulk up really fast still benefits from steroid use but the WWE try to protect their wrestlers a little better now due to public outcry and the like.

So you came here to chew gum and give thanks, and you're all out of thanks?

Wait.... that doesn't sound right.
