This is a great topic. I don't know...Raiders, Terminator, T2, Predator, First Blood, Rambo IV, The Last Crusade, Bourne Trilogy, new Bond films...

There are plenty to choose from.

In my personal opinion, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK , THE ROAD WARRIOR and DIE HARD have never been topped.

My Top Five:

1. The Dark Knight
2. Inception
3. Die Hard
4. The Matrix
5. The Bourne Identity

EDIT: This is more of a personal preference. If one were to ask me what I thought was generally the best, most relevant action movie of all time I would have to say Die Hard.
Favorite Movies of All Time: | 127 Hours | The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King | The Dark Knight | Pulp Fiction | 2001: A Space Odyssey | Ferris Bueller's Day Off | No Country for Old Men | Inception | The Godfather | The Fugitive |

The movie that set the standard for cop action flicks.

Nobody did it better than Inspector Harry Callahan.

Pretty much any Michael Bay movie besides Pearl Harbor.

Terminator 2 is a good movie...but the action is rather meh.

When I think action movie, T2 is the first thing that comes to mind.

Yes Terminator 2 was a phenomenal accomplishment, I had to see this twice in succession, just brilliant!.

Original Rambo is really good too!.

My list looked like this in the early '00 :

01 | The Rock
01 | Aliens
03 | Terminator 2 : Judgment Day

Now it would be :

01 | Aliens
02 | The Matrix
03 | Terminator 2 : Judgment Day

Saw 'The Rock' recently and -I don't know- I couldn't understand how this made my list in the first place.
[Wanted Slipcovers US] Cinderella - The Great Mouse Detective - Pete's Dragon - Hunchback of Notre Dame - Atlantis - Robin Hood - Oliver & Co - Sword in the Stone - Peter Pan - Atlantis - Chicken Little (3D) - Mulan - Lilo & Stitch - Bolt (3D) - Brave (2D) - Monsters University (2D) - Frankenweenie (3D) - James and the Giant Peach

It's already been mentioned, but if you have not yet seen The Raid: Redemption, do... it... NOW!

The director even cited Hard Boiled as a primary action influence

I've found lately that whenever I just want to watch an action movie, I always go for "Fast Five". And now whenever I try to watch an old favorite like "Lethal Weapon 2" or "Commando", they just seem dull now.
