And they never did something like that again with Harry Potter. My first DVD was the USA version because my friend from the USA sent it to me for a birthday present when he found out we were getting a DVD player finally. I had that thing around for ages until I bought the complete the BluRay set. My kids just rolled their eyes when I explained the title difference. And then they felt insulted.

The cheapest thing to do would likely be to get one of the 8 movie collections (UK set for ?? $25-30) and use the Disc to Digital program to get the UV for $8 (assuming you find 2 other disc to to a 10 DTD for $10). There are always great Holiday/BF deals on the set.
What's the other time other than the $200 set?

Yea its on my black fri wishlist

Gold box deal of the day. I already have the UK 11 disc box set, and was wondering if the US 8 disc collection contains the same transers PQ/AQ wise? The reason I went with the UK set was because it was cheaper. I was just curious about the bitrate difference between the 2 regions. If the US version is any better (which I doubt but thought I'd ask) I may pick it up. I'm aware the UK box has more special features..I'm specifically wanting to know if the PQ is identical for the films.

I just bought the UK version of this 8-Film collection and noticed the first film is called "Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone".

I also see that my disc has Dolby TrueHD 6.1 but none of the reviews mention that. What gives?
Every Blu-ray should have a Play-All option for special features and every player should have 1.5x playback.
Every Blu-ray should come in a Viva Elite case with thick stock artwork and a slipcover. Each disc should have its own hub.
Dark HDR titles exist: Compare Star Trek Beyond 4K to the BD or any other Trek UHD. 10-15% are dark.

That's the actual original title. It was changed for the US because "philosopher" doesn't sound magical here, while sorceror does. Book or movie, any copies you get from the UK will have the original "Philosoper" title.

Ohh. How proper. Lol.

Any idea why the UK version has Dolby TrueHD 6.1 and there seems to be no mention of it anywhere on review sites?

Did they say Sorcerers stone in the movie on that UK version or was that ADRd for US audiences?

They definitely say "Philosophers Stone" in the movie I watched. (Amazon UK)

Why is Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince so dark? Seriously, even with my projector on max bright lamp mode (reserved for 3D only, normally) in a pitch black room I still struggled so make out what's on screen. A quick look at the screenshots in the review clearly shows a dark-dark-dark picture.

There is no defense. It's obnoxious.

It's my first time watching Harry Potter and for the most part each successive film is better than the last; but, oddly, it feels like it covers less material each time.

As far as I know, it wasn't ADR. They actually shot the scene twice from what I've read.

I bought it from amazon.uk a few days ago for $33 shipped. I'd order from there if you decide to do it, if you don't mind waiting a few extra days.

I found a mint condition copy of the Harry Potter: Complete 8-Film Collection for $39 at a used store down the street, slipbox and everything.

I've only seen the first two films in the franchise, so this will be my first rodeo with all of the others. I'm cool to own just the theatrical versions.

Extended cuts are only for the first two and they don't add much anyway. Hope you enjoy the movies.

A bunch of my offline friends have been trying to get me to finish the series, telling me that the movies really got good after I stopped with the second one. There are definitely some talented directors in the fold with the later entries.

They are good movies, but enjoyment of them may depend on familiarity with the books. There are some elements in the last three movies that are introduced kind of crudely, as if they expected audiences to already know what they're talking about.

The first 2 movies are a lot more true to the books then the later movies. Some of the later movies took a huge number of liberties which sometimes allowed for a much better but less true translation to film.
