I am in the same boat, I have had various projectors over the last 7 years, but have never been able to mount them in my apartment. first i started off with using a mini table or night stand, then a counter top finally a neigbor was moving out and asked if i wanted anything and i found a sall 3 and half foot rolling cart, and its been fine on there since, and I am in the middle of earthquake country,I still feel secure with it sitting on there and its never been knocked over yet even some of the more moderate tremors we have had recently.
We couldn't play cheaper programing if we tried, and believe me WE TRIED.

I need something fairly tall, it is behind my couch and right now i have it mounted to a wooden desk using a projector mount, mounted upside down so it acts as a projector stand of the sorts, but i need the desk elsewhere and its a bit much to act as a glorified projector stand.
I was thinking if i could find an a/v component stand thats around 6' tall i could put the projector on the top of that, but those seem very costly. Thought about a bookcase but it would be in the middle of the room so i wouldnt trust it to not get knocked over

Not sure how much you're looking to spend but how about this...

My father in law had made me a stand, and I had used it for YEARS. It was great. I wish I had better pictures of it...

Very nice. Yeah... I'm looking to build my own now. I can't find one review on either the Chief tabeltop mount and the Airdesk 7' tall stand. I just don't want to spend that kind of money.

Mine was about $115 at Best Buy. Look in my Home Theater Gallery link to see the stand (really a tower) I'm using.

Yep... I looked into the option of using a component tower but wanted to save the money and use one of my current shelving units. I've posted a couple pics of my new setup. It's in the "Mike's Pit" folder.
