So it takes 2 years or however long. You sound as if other movies have not been sucessfuly converted. As long as they turn out like Beauty & The Beast and Titanic a lot of folks care including me. Just how do you know it's not going to happen?

If you actually expect something quality, like Titanic(which still is the only older film that looks good in 3D) you'll have to wait 5-6 years. Especially if they want to work with the Extended Editions. |

The irony of course being that Jackson suggested converting the trilogy to New Line/WB some time ago,but they flat-out refused. This was around the time Avatar was released. Too bad, cause it would be a great incentive to have all 6 films on 3D BD.
It'll probably happen at some point, though.
3D is here to stay, get used to it.

It would cost almost 60million to convert these movies into 3D properly.

If the first Hobbit movie does very well at the box office in 3D (assuming it is a 3d movie), I would not be shocked at all to see the process of converting these movies with the intent of re-releasing following the third hobbit film.
Sony XBR 65HX950, Oppo BDP103, Yamaha RX-3800, original PS3 60gfat.

Totally relieved this wasn't confirmed for 3D yet, as I just bought the extended Blu Ray set for 40 bucks new. Then again, the conversion would be for the theatrical versions no doubt.

Can't wait for the Hobbit 3D December 14th. Cinemark is showing it in 3D 48 frames per second, which I'm interested in seeing, but can imagine it'll look strange at first (like soap opera fps), and not as "cinematic". Will hold judgment till I see it though. |
