Watched this last night (first time since seeing it at the cinema), and enjoyed it a lot! More than I did initially.

The AQ is just awesome, up there with the best.
"It's too bad she won't live.. But then again who does."
"Time is of no importance, only life is important."
"You cannot love a dream."
"It's not possible. No, it's necessary."

Just watched on BD for the first time...

I enjoyed the movie, but I'm wondering about something.

At the end of the movie, is the current future prevented or set in motion?

[Show spoiler]As long as Cid lives, he will become The Rainmaker. The only difference I can see is that his mother will 'raise him good', which (I think) means Cid will fight the Crime Gangs. So at the end of the movie, it seems like nothing has changed. If anything, someone trying to assassinate his as a child probably predisposes Cid to fight and destroy The Gangs in the future.

I'm also not sure why Old Joe blames The Rainmaker for everything in his future either. He must have know they were going to come for him when his Contract was up. By putting up a fight, he essentially got his wife killed.

But assuming everything in the movie happened and Old Joe came back to the past. Here's the ending I would have preferred:

During the tense standoff at the end, Young Joe calls out "You've already lost, Joe". Old Joe hesitates and turns slightly. Young Joe explains the future has already changed. He says "You led me to this farm and now I'm never leaving". Old Joe takes a moment to look at Young Joe and Sara, he starts to connect the dots... Young Joe continues "I'm never going to The East, I'm never going to You know it's true. Go ahead...check it if you want". Old Joe slowly pulls out his watch and the picture of his wife is gone. He drops to his knees and cries out. Moments later as he begins to comprehend, he fades into nothingness.

Young Joe stays with Sara on the farm. The local gang is wiped out and Cid's future is an open question. In fact, I'd love to see a sequel where Cid grows up and tries to figure out what to do with his power. It could be a fallen, dying world where Road Warrior meets Man of Steel.

Surprised JGL didn't have a bigger part in Last Jedi than just a little v.o. Hopefully Sony will tie-in and bring this to UHD when that pic hits the format.
A few wanted UHD BDs: Road To Perdition; Eyes Wide Shut; The Last Samurai; Training Day; 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi;
Amadeus; Casino; Vertical Limit (2000); Gattaca; Bad Boys II; Crimson Tide; Master and Commander: The Far Side Of the World; From Hell (2001)
