PGA awards usually track closely with the Best Picture nominations (with famous exceptions).

No Hobbit, no Dark Knight Rises, no Avengers.

This is pretty much exactly what the Best Picture field is going to look like. Give or take the Beasts of the Southern Wild and Django Unchained spots. The Hobbit, The Impossible or The Master could jump in to feel those spots either, but none of those are locks and it's those five - well really, four (sorry The Master - that are fighting for the last two spots.

The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers don't have a shot at all, and will stay consigned to the squabbbles of the internets.

Does anyone know how the PGA nominations differ from the Academy's in terms of Rules? For instance, The Oscars' can have as many as ten nominations but they require at least 5% of the first place votes for a nominee to be eligible. Do the PGA awards have a similar requirement or do they have a set number?

I went back and looked at some of the previous awards years and it seems like since 2010 they have been nominating ten films each year, where prior to that they were nominating five.

The PGA field has ten set spots to fill. They started with that number right around the time the Academy did, in 2009.

you think Skyfall will be nominated for Best Picture? That was the only one in the group I felt sure would not match up when the BP noms come out.

I have seen them all except for Zero Dark 30. The only one that impressed me was Django. So thats what I hope wins.

I *do* think Skyfall can end up in the mix. These past couple of years with ten spots in the field there's usually been a bone thrown to one of the heavy-hitting blockbusters, and of the three this year (The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers being the other two), Skyfall has by far had the highest critical opinion, along with an envious Oscar pedigree (Mendes, Deakins, Dench, Bardem, Feinnes...).
