The Exorcist. It renewed the faith of a certain priest.

Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
Allegory with a strong emphasis on Christian concepts of sin, its results, the need for atonement, sacrificial death and resurrection.

Narnia flicks are strong Christian themes but don't fit with the narrow scope of Easter related flicks...thanks for your suggestion : )

I disagree. The second two Narnia movies are not but the first is. While it is not a literal adaptation of the Easter story, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is definitely an allegory of the Easter story and as such is strongly related to Easter. With the strong Christian and Easter symbolism inherent in it, it is a great movie that can start discussions on about the Biblical Easter narrative.

And in some ways the allegory can even make it more personal. Put yourself in Edmund's shoes of
[Show spoiler]having been the reason Aslan had to sacrifice his life on the stone table
. How does that relate to me and the biblical Easter story? How about Lucy and Susan when
[Show spoiler] they thought something horrible had happened to Aslan's body and then the joy they felt at seeing him alive again
and how that relates to the events of Easter morning?

You asked for Christian Easter-related movies and did not specify literal biblical Easter movies. This goes perfectly with what you requested. A movie with strong Christian themes that depicts (albeit allegorically) the Easter story and does so in a meaningful and reverantul manner.

There are plenty of Christians who would interpret the phrase he is supposed to have said on the cross, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" to suggest that his human nature could feel some confusion and doubt. And since you mention "the historical Jesus" that opens up the question of what historians have thought about how he conceived of his own role, but maybe you don't want to get into that.

The Last Temptation of Christ is an interesting film and I think should be viewed in its entirety before someone makes a decision about it. I can tell you haven't seen it since the sex scene doesn't happen until almost the end of the film, not the beginning. Williem Dafoe's accent and questionable acting are probably the most offensive things in the movie to me.

A lot of it is based on Gnostic gospels, like the Gospel of Judas, so yes, there is a mixed bag of heresies portrayed in the film but the film is not being offered as a depiction of actual life of Christ. In fact, if you watch the movie, you can make a good argument that most of what is seen in the film is a dream. Even if taken at face value, the sex scene doesn't end up actually occurring.

That being said, not a family film for Easter.

It's an interesting movie to watch, but it's not a Christian movie.

You're right - it's a Catholic movie.

Catholics are a branch of the Christians.

Thing about Hollywood Christian movies is not a lot of them are going to be completely strict adaptations of the bible. At some point or another, it's going to start taking liberties. It's why in Ten Commandments we're given a love triangle and in Prince of Egypt, Moses had a much closer relationship with Ramses.

The bible does say that Jesus was tempted in every way, so him being presented a vision of an "alternate life" had he not fulfilled his mission doesn't come off to much as sacrilege to me. But I understand why not everyone is fond of it. I'm on the fence with the movie myself.

Speaking of which, I plan to do a double feature of The Ten Commandments and Ben-Hur tomorrow.
Top 10 Favorite Films: 1) The Truman Show, 2) 12 Angry Men, 3) Jackie Brown, 4) 25th Hour, 5) Princess Mononoke, 6) The Godfather,
7) Pulp Fiction, 8) Back to the Future, 9) Blade Runner, 10) The Lord of the Rings

I suggest, that you go back, and watch the beginning of that mess again.

I'm surprised the animated version of The Ten Commandments isn't available on Blu-ray. Wasn't that a big hit? I remember seeing it in the theatre with loads of relatives.
