I seem to recall them being different. They're both outtakes so obviously they're very similar, but the 'Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor' is a different set of outtakes. Nearly an hour's worth.

I watched the Anchor Bay Blu-ray and wood and textures are extremely high detailed for 16mm, even better than some grainy 35mm 80s films on Blu-ray.
I'm almost 100% certain it's 2K.

I think you are right but it's really hard to believe. The film looks amazing in motion, I doubt it will ever look better.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in 2k looked worse than the 4k restoration, The Evil Dead looks more like the 4k remaster of TCM.

It's been unavailable for quite a while now. That said, you can get 100% of the extras from that extra DVD bonus disc in the 3-DVD "Ultimate Edition" release from 2007.

These days it's honestly quite a bit easier (and likely less expensive) to get the standard single-BD release and the Ultimate Edition DVD set together than to get the Best Buy exclusive by itself on the secondary market.
Forget The Evil Dead; what George Lucas has done to Star Wars since 1997 is truly "The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror".

2016 marks the film's 35th anniversary. I wonder if we might see a new release? I hate to have to make my own "Special Edition" by buying different releases, so I think I'll wait a bit to see if there might be a new Blu-ray sometime this year. Besides, I still have my "Book of the Dead" DVD edition to hold me over.

If Starz/Anchor Bay will be handling the Bluray/DVD release of Ash Vs. Evil Dead, looks like they would also do something for the Anniversary of the first Evil Dead.

I actually like to see that happen. 4K remaster (I doubt it. Not because of Anchor Bay, who I still support, but because can the film look any better?) both wide and original full screen versions (untweaked and unaltered!) on their own discs with lots of extras.

D'oh! I completely forgot about the region-free UK release. It has on its single disc all the extras that the Best Buy exclusive had, but at the cost of removing the original 4:3 AR encode of the film from the BD.

So if you want the bonus features without having to get a separate DVD release and are OK with the re-framed 1:85:1 encode, then the UK release is the option that would fit your needs best. It only costs ~$14 shipped to import it from Amazon UK, which is a rather reasonable price.

Forget The Evil Dead; what George Lucas has done to Star Wars since 1997 is truly "The Ultimate Experience in Grueling Terror".

To be honest I am a high quality fetishist and I usually cringe at bad processed 2k scans but this one looks amazing. I really thought it's 4k first.
I don't need a new release, I don't think the 16mm can look that much better. Maybe it can but it already looks stunning, almost like 35mm. Great details, great colors, great contrast, very good grain structure.

Check out this capture, simply stunning quality for a low budget 16mm film:

Just got my copy in the mail. I got the stupid worthless bare bones release with just the stupid commentary when I expected the unlimited edition. ****ing ebay sellers.

The limited edition is stacked with features. It was annoying to receive this copy though. I'll probably just trash it.

Wait, how much did you pay for it and was it listed as the limited? If it was listed as limited and you got non-limited, return that shit!

It's still a great BD, and if you have the UE dvd, all the extras are just recycled from that anyway. You'll just have 3 discs of extras instead of 1. The BD disc is the same in all packages, you just get a dvd of extras with the limited. I'm shocked that LE thing has so much extra value since all this stuff is available elsewhere and cheap, and it's just a dvd, and not even a purty dvd.

That's the one.

What's the cover art for the DVD that has all of these special features?

Ahhh, they just used a stock photo but never said either way if it is or isn't limited. I do see 6 inquires were asked, but I can't see the content of them. So unless you were one of the 6 and they told you it was the LE with dvd, they just are guilty of using the wrong photo. It might/probably be on purpose. You could ask them if they'll accept a return and let em know you feel a bit deceived by the pic, but I don't think you have a case to take to ebay or paypal. You kinda had to know by that price it was probably gonna be the standard. I'd try to return it and get the steelbook if in your shoes.

This is the dvd with all the stuff.
I just noticed it is missing one thing from the LE dvd, but it's minor. From the review on this site: Book of the Dead: The Other Pages (1:57) contains footage of Ash flipping through every page in the book.
But you get all the trailers, TV spots, and old commentaries which are fun if you've never heard them.

It does say new DVD up there also. The photo and the new DVD comment got me.

I guess I should just suck it up and get the DVD and get on with it.

Thanks.

Scanning 2K across the width of 16mm film is the equivalent of scanning 4K across the width of 35mm film. If that's what they did.

I'm always tempted to pick up the Ultimate Edition because of all the exclusive-at-the-time extras (like 'Ladies of The Evil Dead') that never made it to the UK. Plus the packaging looks pretty. I'd echo the thoughts of those who want an anniversary edition, though. There's so many editions out there with different extras. The bonus disc included in the trilogy box set has some brilliant featurettes. It's just that it would be nice to have one comprehensive release with both versions of the film, all three commentaries, the documentary and the various featurettes, outtakes and trailers.
I prayed for the death of Heather Chandler many times and I felt bad every time I did it, but I kept doing it anyway. Now I know you understood everything. Praise Jesus. Hallelujah.
