I would check best buy and amazon.

Just so happens a friend of mine had her old tube tv break and I helped her pick out a 42 Panasonic with passive 3d. Panasonic has only just recently started making passive sets and it's 2d and 3d pq is great. I think it was $800 but a nearly identical set with a different model number was $600 the next day.

Hmm so tv prices do go up and down like movies but not as often?

I'm on a 40" right now

How about a LG 42LM6200?

I see it has local dimming but I wonder how it looks really in person? I've seen pictures on the internet but I wonder if it's worth it? having said that calibrating a LED tv is is about the same as a CFL or what? And assuming LED the colors are going to be deeper by default?

Dude,

Go shop for your tv. It may be fun. No one is gonna do it for ya.

This is the passive set my friend bought and it was $600 at one point.

Sorry about that,... just seemed a bit one sided.

If I was buying now I would look for a passive set simply based on what I saw from my friends recent purchase. Passive gives you half the rez but the $1 glasses that never need batteries and are easy on the eyes seem fantastic.

Or if you don't mind tiny Pick up the PS3 Display. It's only 24" but it's only $200 with a set of glasses and a HDMI cable.

If you really want to work with someone on making the decision maybe you should give more info or show at least that you have looked at an option or two.

Edit - Finally,... Cosco or BJs may have that LG with a price similar to what you would get online and a much better return policy.

I was split between that panasonic model you listed and this LG model

http://www.amazon.com/LG-42LM6200-42...ds=42%22+3D+tv

The LG is LED and has local dimming but I really don't hear too much about local dimming here..

I assume because the LG is LED the colors are a bit hotter out of the box or it would have more contract then the Panasonic period? It took me awhile to get my Samsung just right because one color would be blown out or the skin tone was too orange.

That looks like a good one.

As far as the Panasonic I mentioned... There's one with almost the same model number that is used for online sales or something and it came up $600 as deal of the day the day after my friend bought hers. She didn't care much but it would have been a STEAL for $600. The PQ is off the hook fantastic.

Active 3D is technically superior but I wish I had a passive set. The one my friend bought looks great with 3D and I have a bunch of passive glasses from my local movie theater. I have 3 kids and those passive glasses would put up with a lot more general abuse and then ... they are cheap to replace too.

I think the panasonic is edge - lit so the model you suggested could be better.

I think my BJs carries LG 3D HDTVs ... We don't have a Cosco here. Places like that are nice about returns.

Again... Sorry for getting a bit fussy-butted.

Yeah BB I once went to check out a 3D set.. you could always tell when the 3D demo would start because of the flickering.. that short demo ended up giving me a slight headache.

While I haven't seen a passive set yet I have glasses from the local theater as well and it's fine for me.

If I do get a set it would be sometime around Christmas or early next year.. Christmas would be better :P

And it's ok we all have our bad days

In that case... I think you ought to plan for Black Friday.

Someone's gonna have deals on these for Black Friday and ... You won't have to wait so long.

I hear Walmarts have passive 3D demos. (My local Walmart does not.)
In fact most of what I've seen on demo was active. My BB has passive sets to demo though.

Another question with 3D I'm sure the best viewing is in a dark room..

But how does say a 42" screen compare to say a huge theater screen? I view my current screen about 5-6 Ft away and I wonder if I still would be able to see the 3D well enough.

I have a 42" passive in our bedroom that I sit around 7' away. The picture looks fine. I have a 120" active projector setup in the Living room that I sit around 8.5' away. That picture also looks great. Just demo some tvs and buy what you like. The tech is so cheap now that the choices are fairly easy.

I got a 42 inch soniq (LG panel) for $399 new about 6 months ago. I love it and have had no problems...

ATM I am thinking about upgrading(?) to a 55inch Hisense passive model for not far over $1000. Anyone have any experience with this one?
