I'd like to see the theatrical cut of The New World on blu-ray.

All movies that have been trough "restoration" should include the "original" movie since after a restoration the movie does not look like it should since they make so many digital "enhancements" that you do not know the movie any more.
Do not care about directors cut! but want the original movie to be included. |

I agree with the notion that most every release should include the theatrical cut of a picture. For films of a certain historicity and/or that have reached a canonical state, it is the theatrical cut upon which its initial, fundamental critical evaluation wrests. Even when a later revision arises that is to supercede this cut [read: Blade Runner, Touch of Evil, the Star Wars OT], I always appreciate - and possibly even value - the theatrical cut a little more.
Too much of (especially) recent releases that are labeled as 'Director's' - or more appropriately, 'Extended' - cuts feature scenes and gags that are better left out of the film. I'm qualifying this in totality; I realize that there are some Director's/Extended cuts that make the film better or more of a whole. But orders of magnitude more do not, and are frequently nothing more than a ruse to raise prices. |

Sweet! I came in here to wish that Payback had an original version released. Amazon.co.uk here I come.
(I also wish there were original cuts of Underworld + Return of the Jedi).
Now running in 3D with the LG Cinema 3D (nominally showing 3D in 1080i per eye) 47LW6500 (up-or-down-or-side-graded from a 50" Sammy 3D Plasma) and a Benq W1070 and a 100" screen, and controlling it with a Harmony 880.

I actually like the extended cuts of Superbad and Tropic Thunder, though I haven't seen the theatrical cut of Tropic Thunder to have anything to compare to.
I will choose 2 here; one that has been mentioned and one that hasn't. We badly -- BADLY -- need the theatrical cut of Dumb & Dumber on blu-ray. It's one of my favorite comedies, and it pains me to see how the extended footage has gnawed at the film's home video legacy. At least give us an option here! The other I would add is Zodiac, but only so I could see it for comparison's sake. I love that movie, and having 5 extra minutes of it makes me extremely happy, but I would still be interested to see the original cut. Either way, I'm just happy to own it, and I do love the director's cut very, very, very much. Why Are They So Excited About a 5? A Silver Linings Playbook Essay

It's very annoying -- the film on the blu-ray is good, but it's NOT the movie I saw in the theater. Scenes added, scenes removed, and a completely different ending. That would be fine IF the original was included, but it's not. There are even a couple of alternate ending on the disc, but not the theatrical one. But that's about as likely to happen as Orson Welles' inteded cut of The Magnificent Ambersons, isn't it? |

i don't know if it counts per se, but Gone With the Wind was originally about 6 hours long or so and a lot of stuff had to be cut out. would love to see that.

Couldn't agree more. This used to be one of my favorite comedies, but I can't even watch the Unrated version anymore. It's atrocious!!!!!! ![]() Many of us want the theatrical cut of Dumb and Dumber. Generally speaking, I am for making all versions of a movie available on Blu-ray, this way everybody is happy. |
