For a summer series, they were on par with what Under The Dome and other network series have been pulling in this year so far.

It's been broadcast all over the world. I'm sure the sales to other countries made it a success.

Yeah, it's not. 24 performed very well, even if the initial numbers don't show it dramatically.

Exactly. 24 did well, and did so around the world, which frankly, is who U.S. studios makes films/television for now, as opposed to domestic audiences.

A global market is here to stay.

But imagine you want to make a sequel to XFIles and the ratings are under the ratings of season 9, what will be your reaction ? I would be dissapointed.
24 did poor ratings comapred to the "historical" ratings.

I dont think global market is a good proff that 24 is a success

I understand where you're coming from but there are a couple of factors that have to be added to the equation. More people are watching via DVR than they are live. More people are watching online. Live Another Day aired May-July versus September-May. The Live Another Day finale earned a 1.7 and 6.4 million viewers. Compare this to 4 years ago when season 8 went off the air. It had a 2.7 rating and 8.9 million viewers.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to find live +7 numbers for recent episodes as they quit reporting on those in the summer. The premiere, though, had a 2.8 rating after the Live +3 ratings were tallied in. I'm guessing that's going to be the number for Live +7 for the finale.

Your argument has merit, but one has to remember it's a VASTLY different television landscape than it was when X-Files and 24 first aired. If X-Files had the ratings it had back in the early 2000s it would be considered a hit!

As for The X-Files, the delay in announcing an official Blu-ray release might have a little something to do with this: As its been reported from Comic-Con, and frankly as weve suspected here at The Bits for a while now, series creator Chris Carter is in talks with Fox about returning to the franchise either with a reboot series, or a new feature film, or possibly both. Waiting for any kind of official announcement about such a project before announcing a BD release of the series makes tons of sense from a studio marketing perspective, but again well have to wait and see.

May be a mini series but nothing confirmed
The Fact that Chris Carter is even saying anything about the X-Files is a positive sign.

I think this pretty much sums it up. With all the changes that have taken place in the last 5 years, there is really no definitive way to keep track of ratings anymore, but one thing is for sure; 24's return was big. AND SO WILL BE THE X-FILE'S!!!!

What we fans need to do is gather several thousands of us, go outside 20th Century Fox's headquarters and all throw a giant temper tantrum. Maybe that will work to getting the season on BD.
Groovy
