I don't think it's fair to say that the aliens are unintelligent. Theres a pack mentality to them, they do not operate alone and often attack the grunts from various angles. Just because they are not pulling a Solid Snake on the marines doesn't mean that they haven't got any idea of strategy. What about the first attack? The way they blended into the hive and attacked each crew members from different points? That's intelligent in my book.

It's also a bit baffling that people keep complaining about how the Aliens are easier to kill this time round. The tag line of the film is 'This Time It's War', that would imply heavy machinery, 'superior firepower' if you will. The first film was a survival horror in which the crew members simply didn't have the appropriate tools to deal with the threat, THAT's why it was hard to kill. If they'd had one of those machine guns, the single alien would have finished quickly.

Think of it this way - imagine starting the original Resident Evil game with the various weapons you attain in Resi 5? It would be an easier game, no?

And Burke may have been somewhat cliched, but Reiser's perfect combination of cowardice and creep factor gives him a lot weight. I'm not sure what Reiser was known for prior to that role but that's a perfect portrayal of complete slime ball. I love that performance the more I watch the film. Besides, it's nice to see a company man get their comeuppance for once.
Good points. Plus the aliens found their way in and cut the power on them. Far from unintelligent.

The mother and daughter analogy in Aliens worked well but I didn't want that in A3.
Yeah. It worked for having another Alien style movie, rather than an Aliens style movie. However I understand that people feel betrayed since Aliens was all about saving the girl at the end.

They probably should have just had Ripley separated from Hicks and Newt a different way.

Yeah, but it's Ripley. She's a doomed figure, and the series is about her and the critter. Other people are extraneous.

How would that be different, though? Is the betrayal you're positing because they're removed from Ripley, or because they're dead? Either way, it's still Ripley getting stripped bare. (As shown metaphorically with her nearly-shaved head.)

Look Geoff, leave Burke alone. He made a decision, and it was....wrong. It was a bad call, Geoff. It was a bad call.

I agree with you in general and I am a defender of Alien 3 and seeing the series as a trilogy, especially with the improved new cut. I'm just saying I understand some people had a strong reaction to the co-heroes of the last movie being killed in the opening credits. I bet a lot of those people would have had better reactions if Ripley had to separate from them early on without them dying.

It was a depressing end especially for Hicks.
[Show spoiler]I mean you fight these aliens, get wounded, and survive only to be impaled by a support column. Talk about bad luck, but it goes really well with the depressing theme of the third film.

"Only the first one."

LMAO!

I still think they should do a new version of Alien 3 where they wake up and have been in Cryo-Slep for about 500 years. That will explain the age difference.
Then take the story in a few different directions and then wipe out the Alien menace once and for all.

The only reason it is a Ripley/Alien Story is because that was how the first one ended. If 3 ended with her not being alone and dead, it wouldn't have that feel to it. Aliens left her with hope and a family. That NEVER should have been removed!
