I did not need to quote this luckly but researched it on the odd chance. I had the 40Gb model for a year and a half and it went wrong using sonys update to version 3. Sonys end result after trying to get my console to boot was they wanted £150 for a refurbed console despite the firmware was to blame. I spoke with the online retailer and after telling them what I did with sony they said no 40Gbs in stock and offered a full refund which was a result. Got the slim now but not as fast and good looking as the 40Gb. Last edited by stargazeruk; 12-16-2009 at 07:18 PM. |

In my experience, the best part about buying warranty from retail store is they are responsible for shipping back to manufacturer for repair and it also covers all hardware in the system bundle. Usually they are hassle-free on replacing broken hardware with brand new hardware as long as you fall in the 1-3 year replacement time. My Xbox 360 died 2 years after purchase and I was covered under the extended warranty purchased. Futureshop sent the system to Microsoft for repair. 5 days later I got a call saying it couldnt be fixed and to come in and get a brand new system for free. I kept the hard drive/cables/controller from the original 1st gen 20GB system and upgraded to an Elite for $90, 2 years later. Last edited by nekz; 12-17-2009 at 11:04 AM. |

But this is neither here nor there for the Sony PS3. I knew I did not buy the Best Buy Two-Year Replacement Warranty at the same checkout as the PS3 console. I bought it a day ot two later after their management confirmed they's cover the console cost as the warranty didn't actually go high enough in $$$ coverage. I'm presently trying to find that Best Buy Two-Year Replacement Warranty for the PS3. Had the HDMI output failed just before the two-year mark I would have saved myself some of the loss by having Amex refund me on their consumer protection feature for members. |

RE: 320Gb version
I've noticed that if a disc has fingerprints, or other such marks, the PS3 sometimes decides not to load the disc. So remember if your disk doesn't play, just clean the marks with a cloth and that might solve your problem. Ofcourse, many other BR players can do the same - but i've noticed the PS3 does it more often than other brands/models. peace
It's only a movie.

I'm hoping my sad day hasn't come. My wife was watching a movie and all of a sudden the ps3 turned off.
Now when I try to start it it's green for a second then starts flashing red, nothing happens on screen. Any ideas guys? Or am I f***ed? |

Make sure it has a lot of free space for ventilation Use a vacuum cleaner on all openings to remove dust. I also have the red light problem, but only when I play Uncharted 2 and Killzone 3 ( I can play those 40 minutes at most). Mass Effect 2 and Blu Ray movie? No problem, for something like 7.5 hours...

Next month I will have had my PS3 for a year it's a 160 GB Ps3 slim, really happy I have it and sorry I waited so long to get it between watching Netflix and hulu + and blu-ray I have more then enough to keep me busy.. plus I can game on it when I get tired of movies
Also I want to add I was a heavy PC gamer before I got my PS3 and now that I have it I find it hard to spend $500+ to upgrade my PC for gaming now.. kinda sad since I don't want that market to die out like that. Last edited by MikeCL; 09-04-2011 at 01:02 PM. |

I am bringing this thread back to live for a question.
I am thinking about getting another PS3, and I am wondering whether I should go for the 320Gb Slim version (in RED), or a 500Gb brand new slide-door version for around the same price? Reason I asked is mainly, I heard so much negatives about the new version like the slide door design, and I was told it is a dust trap and all. What do you guys think?
