The difference our systems over the years, you truly upgraded on a stratospheric level! I on the other hand, it has been primarily lateral moves with a minor improvement here and there.
Undue the velcro and let a little breeze in. It's awesome. Just make sure you don't take it out in public, or they'll throw you in the dark and you won't come back.

I think that's a quality list you posted. You were the alpha dawg in '97 - '00. Heck, you're still the alpha in my book.

Lol. Not sure stratospheric is the right adjective. Where'd you get that? It's been lateral moves like most of us. It's the fine details that cost the most. That's true in cars, hi-fi, dining, most everything. Well, everything we seem to like.

The term stratospheric is how I would describe your growth over the years of obtaining high quality devices. Wabs, you are aware that you have one of the most celebrated and revered systems on Blu-ray.com and AVS for that matter.
Don't be so modest, albeit, it's very noble of you.

Good morning LD, yes I saw your list of older gear on Wabo's thread. That must have been when you owned 4 towers of power. I still own the Sony DVP-S7000 and the Yamaha DSP-A3090. I find it had to part with them.

I totally agree with your statement about Wabo's current setup. We all strive to be able to reach that level of performance one day.

Talking about having a closet full of old devices:
Here's my closet setup:

Marantz SR9300 AVR
Marantz MM9000 MC Amp
Denon DVD-2910 Universal Player
Yamaha CDC-685 CD Changer
Pioneer Elite DVR-7000 DVD Recorder
Cambridge Audio 640C CD Player
Philips CDR-950 CD Recorder
DLO Homedock HD iPod Docking station
DLO Homedock iPod Docking station
easily 40 analog audio and video cables!
And an embarrassing list of obscure, outdated, obsolete accessories.
Klipsch Reference RF-35 5.0 package

I just bartered my Sony DVP-NC555ES DVD changer to have my new remote programmed.

I really need to get this stuff on eBay or Craigslist!

Good Morning John.

I apologize for the late reply to your kind salutation. I had a very relaxing Easter. Nothing too festive. I pretty much just hung out in the cave. Took in a movie (Total Recall) and watched the NBA playoffs.

Although I worked today, I was still able to find a few moments to visit my local record purveyor for this Spring's Record Store Day offerings. I'm sure you've heard that vinyl is making a huge comeback (although it will only ever be a niche market), and RSD is something vinyl fans look forward to twice yearly as there are many releases only offered then. Limited releases, Numbered releases, 7' singles, 10" singles, Picture Discs, Boxsets and Audiophile quality (180g-200g) pressings are some of the product variety you'll see. It's a true bonanza for the vinyl fan.
RSD sounds like a very fun experience. I'm not sure if we have a day like that down here. I doubt that we do. If we did, it would surely be an event I would attend. If not to buy vinyl, just to take in the ambiance!

So now that I've been home for a few hours I've been spinning the vinyl furiously and it'll likely continue well into the evening. Many people don't quite understand the allure and appeal vinyl has over me, but I have to tell you...it brings so much joy and pleasure to this oldtimer that I truly don't have the proper words to describe the experience. "Joy" is a word I like though.
This passage has been thoroughly covered in post 4595.

Quote:
So now that I've bored you with what my passion is, what brings you the most joy from a hobby you partake in?
You know JV, I guess it's just the idea that I've created a sanctuary for myself. That's what gives me the most joy. A place I can go and just relax. A getaway from the stresses of the day along with having the ability to entertain myself. The environment also allows me to partake in a hobby/passion that I've had most of my adult life. Whether it's listening to music or watching a movie, it's the fact that I'm doing it on my own terms, is the real joy.
