So when you guys say it's too expensive ... well, how much is too much? I mean, I've seen incredible #'s for JP discs - over $100? $50? $40? $30

About 40 bucks before shipping. Use CDJapan. They are slightly cheaper and If it's your first order they will usually throw you 3000 points and that will kncok a couple dollars off.

Yeah, I knew that. I just bought Cross of Iron from them and was able to use the points right away. They list Dredd at $39.71 (before factoring in points and shipping) - Amazon.jp is $42.00. I was just wondering what they were seeing in case I could offer some good news, but you beat me to it. I'm a bit surprised 'cause I know HD has spent that much on imports before - thought maybe he'd heard it wasn't that much better enough to be worth it.
P.S. So the points are only the first time? I got 300 points last time which saved me $2.78.

JP discs is like buying those laserdiscs back in the days, premium!!

Today (most US) people want their brand new discs at $9,99.....

I have some JP discs because some are just worth it, others can wait for new releases or (not likely) a JP sale

Had the chance of buying Dredd when I was in japan last year, kind of bummed now I didn't (no taxes or shipping) but I already had the whole suitcase stuffed with movies :P

I could just see you if they checked at Customs : "Look, I swear, I'm not a dealer. They're all for my own personal collection. Really!"

I get the premium price for a premium product mentality, I really do. And I have paid that price many times. When you already own the movie though paying $45 to own it again is a different proposition. You end up putting it off and waiting for maybe a 4k release or whatever, because you already own it which means there are probably higher priorities.

Also I really thought the 2D transfer issues were rooted in a stylized concept for the film in general, rightly or wrongly.

I thought the US 2D looked great - and I still find myself tempted by the JP release. It's a disease!

Yeah its not bad. I am okay with it but I do wish they had been either separate releases in the US or 2 discs here. The audio is thumpin' though!!!

Update here. Got a couple of new discs which also don't play so finally caved and bought a new All Region BD player. First disc I tried was Dredd and it now works!! So happy and you guys are right, the sound is insane! Never heard so much bass.

I guess I don't need to buy the JP disc anymore.

If you are an audiophile, you will want to pickup the JP release.

Same audio as the US release, but more refined.

US disc:

DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 Neo:X optimised (48kHz, 24-bit)

JP disc:

DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 Neo:X optimised (96kHz, 24-bit) over seen by FORS.

(48kHz, 24-bit) vs (96kHz, 24-bit)

How much of a difference will one be able to distinguish?

Your ears will hear it!! Not saying all likes it though. I find most 96kHz blu-rays too loud the bass and surrounds takes over

Not much. Or at least, I don't think it's worth the extra money importing this. The US version is cheaper and it comes with 3D.
