So interesting to me that I've had the exact same experience with my BDT350. Still on original 1.3 fw because I know that later firmware further compromises the ability to calibrate the player for proper onboard multichannel DTS HD-MA and Dolby TrueHD playback via the analog 7.1 outs. Knock on wood, I've yet to have playback issues. It even played the notoriously problematic Keeping Score - Mahler: Origins and Legacy BD that my (one model year younger) Sony BDP-S470 would not.

Warning to all BD55 owners: Firmware update 2.4 made my player unresponsive. Panasonic said I should pay to ship it to them, then pay $105 for an 'upgrade' to a player that does not have comparable specs, the BD77 - which is only $85 on their website.

After 90 minutes on the phone with them, I am never, ever buying a Panasonic product again. Time for an OPPO.
