Couldn't find a thread on this release in the UK forums sorry, so have made my own. I'm just wondering about Neeson's Taken on blu-ray, where foreign languages are spoken in the film (mostly French, Albanian). From what I have read from the region 2 release of 'Taken', is that English subs do not appear in these foreign language parts - unless full subs are selected.
Apparently this problem was fixed for the US release, but not for us here. However, the reviewer from the main blu-ray.com site has questioned whether english subs were even supposed to have been included: Quote:

Yeah, the subs don't pop up automatically like they should, but the dialogue is in the optional English language subtitle stream if I remember. Now I saw the film theatrically, so I knew the dialogue. People have claimed,(wrongly), that it works better this way and puts you more in the head of Neeson's character. This is patently BS, as the conversation with his French contact and his family goes on far, far too long not to be subbed, plus Neeson's character isn't there, is he f**king psychic as well?
So, take from that what you will and don't be paying no £18 for ANY local blu ray disc, let alone Taken.
Tested on animals.

The UK DVD release has the subtitles for the French dialogue. Seems strange to leave them off the BD

Just bumping this one.
I've just finished watching this and I don't see which scene/s the subtitles are meant to pop up. There are a few small parts where some of the 'bad' guys are speaking foreign although they are extremely short scenes and I personally felt it didn't really need subbing. Might just be me though. |

Oh I understand it should have been subbed. However I'm trying to point out that it's not a massive deal on this particular release (imo). If it was crucial to the story and a long detailed scene/s then it would have been vital. But from what I watched last night it seemed to not be an issue.

US version is much better. 2 versions of the film and commentary tracks as well.
