Good luck with that. I nearly got kicked out for taking a picture of the title screen of a 35mm print of The Abyss.

The ushers actually sit within the auditorium throughout.

I was watching the making of Alien 4, and Winona talks a bit how she swipes stuff from the set.

She probably left with an alien head in the backseat of her car, and. a model of The Betty in the trunk.

Does anyone know if the 4.0 mixes that are on the Alien & Aliens BD are majorly different from the 5.1 mixes?

I've only watched the BD's with the 5.1 mixes and I'm tempted to watch the films with their original 4.0 mixes.

They're really not that different. But it can't hurt to try them in 4.1.

I always take it from a different point of view because I know that they are really scratch resistant (but still hate these kind of risky packaging)
If I buy a brand new blu-ray and it is already scratched when I take it out for the first time, I always think, "my dear, what did you have to go through?"

I still miss this collection. Unfortunately I missed the awesome Facehugger edition. We are about to get a new worthless "Innopack" edition in Germany with only 4 disc.

I think UK 6 discs Anthology is the best choice right know even though I hate UK releases for their age restriction labels rampage and the thick cases which doesn't matter in this case because it's not a single disc version. I just noticed how lucky Germans are for having double sided printed covers when I bought my first UK Blu-rays >.<

I compared screenshots from Alien, and I (too) definitely see black crush! So disappointing.
The average bitrate is overall low as well. IMO anything under an average of 35 Mbps is too low, and it's not making use of the BD format.
It goes without saying that a disc with an avg bitrate of 26 Mbps won't look fantastic.

Anyway, a lot of debating here, but my eyes do not deceive me:
Screenshot #1
Screenshot #2

I really think Alien deserves a remaster.
I read that the most recent release is from a 4K scan. And this release wasn't?
I haven't seen comparing screens from the new release and the page for the disc here doesn't say what the average bitrate is.
Favorite movie of all time, any genre would definitely have to be The Something, with what's-her-name!

So like, 99% of BD releases are bad?

My eyesight is impeccable, and I think the masters for Alien and Aliens is more than good enough. Never seen so much hipster style nitpicking... "Um I just can't embrace this particular release due to the below minimum acceptable bitrate of 35mbps as well as the reprehensible and ghastly black crush that engulfs every frame.... * takes a sip of his Starbucks coffee.*"

Hipsters don't watch Blu-rays. They stick to Super 8mm. Totes vintage.

It must be painful for you to see this!

I see you have all the Potter films in your collection, several of which are 11-12 Mbps!

Oh man, the first what 5 or 6 HP films are encoded rather inadequately. Sufficient, passable but not great. The last few titles overall shine pretty well.

Alien would benefit from a higher average bitrate encode but the benefits would be minor for most. The contrast differences lies with Scott's new color grading. Take it or leave it, unless he decides to revisit it. Maybe for the 4K release?

Aliens looks great, in spite of some more heavy hit DNR bits, otherwise lovely transfer and encode. I could swim all day and night in that gorgeously cool color grade. ;}

So I finally bought the Anthology set a few weeks ago (I already owned Alien and Aliens, never much cared for 3 and 4 and I was waiting to find the bigger, sturdier version of the Anthology, which I finally did for $25). Been marathoning the series at a somewhat slow pace since then but I finally started Resurrection last night, which I haven't seen since I saw it once on DVD many years ago.

Is it just me or does the Resurrection BD look awful? Almost like a workprint? I'm watching the theatrical cut and I dunno what it is, but the blacks look really milky/gray, and there just isn't a whole lot of detail shining through (though grain is visible). Wondering if that's just how it's supposed to look or maybe there's something wrong with the disc (I can't imagine it's my player or display)? Any input would be appreciated, thanks.
