This doens't effect me too much at the moment. I haven't rented a blu-ray from Red Box in over a year, though I plan to start doing it more often to deter me from blind buying so much.

The one way this affects me is because I frequently buy from Blockbuster. As long as it's only one studio doing this, it won't be too big of a deal. As more and more studios catch on, I could see this alienating a significant stream of revenue from rental companies.

Unless I was getting blus for a couple bucks from a closing store, there's no way I'd pay ~$6 or $7 for a preowned blu from Blockbuster or Hastings or any other store that sell ex rentals. Chances are, I can get it for a couple bucks more at Amazon or Best Buy or I can wait for a sale (U&S or Black Friday sales) Currently, I always check the back cover. If it's not DTS-HD, I simply won't buy it.

Has Lionsgate swapped lossless for lossy in any of their recent new releases? I know Dredd was released with the DTS-HD MA 7.1 track intact to the rental venues.

I'd rather buy movies on sale to own them than pay to rent them.

I'm also never home enough to justify paying for Netflix monthly streaming or mailing service.

I must be in that small niche demographic that prefers not redboxing or netflixing, but owning the movie and watching it at my own convenience.

Besides, last I remember, blu-rays costed more to rent at Red Box than $1 DVDs. I'd rather just pay for a movie on sale or if it's a movie I saw in theaters I really liked, then just buy it release week.
I'm like that too. I've rented / streamed in the past, but now I'll wait until it goes to general broadcast to check it out before purchasing for newer movies. I've done a couple of blind buys based on reviews, but only if the price is right.

Great, now this will end up polluting the used BD market, much like Full Screen DVDs polluted the DVD market.

Not sure about the audio, but the Netflix version has replaced Sly with his brother Frank. The studios are getting vicious.

They were getting bad, but IIRC, Dredd and Expendables 2 had lossless audio. Not sure about the final Twilight, but the previous Twilight had it removed.

Thankfully my library has gone back to retail BD's after a lot of rental ones were creeping in over the last year or so. Just caught Expendables 2 with Sly and DTS the other day.

Lion's Gate is just making all kinds of great decisions these days aren't they?

Between this and the Texas Chainsaw Blu-ray not being unrated, I think it is seriously boycott time.
