Upon further playing, I find the counter attack move incredibly difficult to pull off, I just can't seem to get the timing right. I'm already getting a bit frustrated and irritated and from what I have read, there are some really difficult parts in the game later on (which also involves the counter attack)...

I think it's just on the special edition version. Needless to say I switched to the Game Boy cover right away.

This is getting beyond frustrating.

I still cannot get the timing right when using the melee counter attack. Am I the only one having a hard time with this? My enthusiasm with this game has steadily dropped because of this...

Really, I'm about to break my 3DS in half.

That's why I pre-ordered it. It was available for a good amount of time after being announced iirc.

It takes some practice but there's an upgrade you'll get in Area 3 that will pretty much eliminate the need for melee attacks after that so just keep practicing.

Got the special edition Friday from EB Games after switching my store pre-ordered regular edition. The CD for C$15 is decent.

After playing for around 8 hours over the weekend, I like it a lot.

I like the initial hard difficulty. Not too punishing on dying with either being reset to your last door (if it was a Metroid fight), or your last elevator or save point in other cases.

I screw-up the counter move almost 90% of the time, so that means inst-hit from the stupid diving bats, and auto-hit from a Metroid fight if you miss.

Getting to deeper areas you do seem to become more OP and that's good because it shows you getting more and more power-ups.

I know there are complaints about enemy recolor usage and repetitive Metroid fights, but it's not too bad for a 3DS game. I find it could use a few more cut-scenes, like with the Metroid fights. Introduce what level they are, etc.

Edit: one day later update... and man, there's a Boss fight that is just... ridiculous (no spoilers!).

It took me a while too, but I still do not like the melee. I feel it breaks the flow of the game. Later in the game though, you're pretty much powered up to the point you don't have to use it.

Still on my first play through, my finish time will be awful but it's a great game.

I do feel all the stuff going on in the back grounds of the maps kind of takes away from the sense of isolation that was present in the original M2.

there one particular Metroid, the one that can shoot what looks like super missles at you. for some reason I never tried one on them till end of area 5, and discover how you can then kill them in seconds. handy for people that like doing speed runs.

Having no issue with the melee attack. What I AM having issue with is just the form factor of the 2DS XL and pulling off using the shoulder buttons at will. I’m good with auto aim but always have an issue with missiles. I have a grip on the way from Amazon so hopefully that helps.

do you have to scan the amiibo twice to unlock or can you just scan when you beat the game?
