Pioneer use factory entered parameters on their players to set the BD region unlike Denon who appear to use firmware. A batch of US players had these ID's incorrectly set at the factory causing the latest BD+ Fox titles not to play, and the affected machines needed to be returned to Pioneer to be correctly set.

Well, I got my player back from the Pioneer authorized repair shop (Capri) in Montreal today (BDP-51FD) and it now plays all my Blu-ray movies that it could not play before. The only thing the work order shows is that they fixed the ID DATA this time around and the technician told me that this fix also applies to some Elite 05 models, but not all. The first time they had my player they only updated the firmware to version 1.32 but the player could still not play the movies. As I had mentioned before, they were all FOX movies (10 movies) but I could play them all in my Sony 350 so I was pretty certain my Pioneer had more than a firmware update issue. I know there are a lot of Sony fans on this site but I do see a noticeable better picture with the Pioneer and I'm glad it's back and working.
I am a little curious about the ID DATA issue and would appreciate if someone could explain it.

Wow I see that either no one has issues with their Pioneer Elite players anymore or no one has them. Well lately I have an issue playing newer Sony release i.e. Men in Black 3, Total Recall, Looper. I have the newest firmware update and I have reset my player 100's of times and no luck. Any other fellow members with this problem?
I have a BDP-31FD
