Geek squad may do it right. Do you qualify for a free calibration?

I qualified for a free calibration so I had them visit and try to calibrate my projector. They didn't do a good job but they did send an ISF certified guy with good equipment, so I was impressed with that.

I use a photospectro meter for calibration.

That would not have impressed me.

So I finally got around to "professionally" (i.e. bought an i1Display 3 Pro and followed this awesome guide) calibrating my new Samsung UN46F6400. So I thought I'd share my results for others to try out and hopefully enjoy. The device I used was my PS3 connected via HDMI out, and a Blu-Ray calibration disc. The room is usually as dark as can be when watching movies or TV (and sometimes gaming), but I also use this display as my main computer monitor and the lights are usually on during that, but the calibration was done in the dark setting.

So, first things first. How bad was it in the first place?

CIE Diagram Before:

Gamma Before:

RGB Levels Before:

As you can see, the color levels were pretty off. Gamma wasn't too bad, but I wanted to bring it up a bit. Still didn't hit the 2.2 target but I think it looks better in the after.

So, here are my settings:

Picture Mode - Movie
Backlight - 11
Contrast - 82
Brightness - 45
Sharpness - 10
Color - 48
Tint - G47/R53
Picture Size - Screen Fit of course

Advanced Settings:
Dynamic Contrast - off
Black Tone - off
Flesh Tone - 0
Color Space - Auto (couldn't get the color space to adjust without screwing other stuff up badly, so left it alone. It's not TOO far off as you'll see in the CIE After Diagram)
White Balance (2 point):
R-Offset - 26
G-Offset - 25
B-Offset - 24
R-Gain - 17
G-Gain - 25
B-Gain - 18

White Balance (10 point):
Interval 1 - -2 Red, 0 Green, -3 Blue
Interval 2 - -1 Red, 0 Green, +4 Blue
Interval 3 - 0 Red, 0 Green, -5 Blue
All other intervals set to 0 for all three colors

Gamma - -1

Picture Options:
Color Tone - Warm2
Digital Clean View - off (preference)
MPEG Noise FIlter - off (preference)

Auto Motion Plus - Custom (I know most people hate this, I like its effect as long as it's set really low)
Blur Reduction - 2
Judder Reduction - 1
LED Clear Motion - off

So, after all of these settings, lets take a look at how things are now:

CIE Diagram After:

(The black triangle represents the reference, the white triangle represents what was measured. As you can see, the color space is off a bit. This was pretty much impossible to adjust right with the given controls)

Gamma After:

(The white line is reference, the blue line is measured)

RGB Levels After:

(Still a dip in blue at 40% but it's still well within acceptable levels. I May fool with it another time to see if I can get it perfect)

And there we have it. A pro-amateur-somewhat proper calibration. Hope this is helpful to someone!
My Current Setup:
Receiver:
Onkyo TX-NR818 Amps: Crown XLS 1500 (Mains), Dayton Audio APA150 (Bridged Mono for Center), Dayton Audio SA230 (Sub) TV: Samsung UN46F6400 Front L/R Speakers: Polk Audio Monitor 70's Center Speaker: Polk Audio CS2 Rear L/R Speakers: Polk Audio Monitor 30's Sub: 1 DIY 12 Inch Sealed sub Blu-Ray/Gaming: PS3 Slim 120GB Other Movies/music: Custom built desktop computer
