It was showing just how far his character has come from the person he started out as in the beginning.

[Show spoiler]He said that Ida was his best friend very early on in the film, and you see just how his relationships have changed...especially with someone like her.

Ended up buying this off Amazon for cheap with a gift coupon. Loved it and loved just about all the performances. ERW is not just a phenomenal actress, but a complete JOY to watch haha.

What exactly didn't you get???
An OT release of the Star Wars Trilogy is the "gay marriage" of home video: the dark side keeps fighting against it, saying that only a small amount of people really want it. However, in no way will it affect their love and enjoyment of their current "situation."
And the good side realizes that it will make millions of people happy and society will only benefit from it.

So when this was in theaters, I got the first half of it after my shift. Having really enjoyed it up to that point, I noticed myself starting to glaze over and chalked it up to just being tired. Got around to watching it last night, and found the same thing happening after Steven picks up the wrong cellphone. The movie just loses me as the plot really starts to kick in, and while I'm a fan of Gosling his hunched-up shoulders routine in the third act seemed kind of silly.

Finally got around to watching this and I loved it. Cast and performances were amazing all around. When Gosling picked up the wrong phone and that whole scene played out, my jaw literally dropped. Crazy good movie. The only thing that kind of bugged me was the ending. While I understand the ending and the whole concept of how it was showing how his character went from an easy going joker type of a guy to a hard nosed politician, I was still kind of left wanting more. Wish it would given us some info on the actual election or something. Idk. Still a great movie.

Is this worth blind buying at $7.99? I'm a big Ryan Gosling fan and this looks like it could be a decent, well-acted film. I'm not big on these political thrillers but this seems like it could worth it because of the outstanding cast.

I absolutely loved this film. The acting is top-notch, and the story is fascinating. $7.99 is a steal.

This. Although, I wasn't head over heels about it, I did like it very much.

This is a strange one for me because:
A) the story is great
B) the acting is great
C) the cast is great

But, I have no interest in watching it again... which I admit, is odd

Its not that weird. I get the same feeling with "There Will Be Blood". Its fantastic on SO many levels but I can't bring myself to watch it again...I've yet to buy it actually. Might have to give it another shot.

I felt exactly the same way, but I decided to buy it anyway once it hit $7.99 a couple weeks ago.

I've had the opposite experience than some of you: I've watched it 3 times since I bought it on release day.

Oh yeaaah! Same thing with THERE WILL BE BLOOD, too!

I thought there was something wrong with me; Great movies with great acting but, for some reason, I dont want to own 'em or care to watch 'em again...

...yet I have Blu-ray's such as, I, Robot and The Other Boleyn Girl, which I know arent as good yet, I love to watch 'em.

I rented it, didn't really like it but still picked it up used at gohastings a while back because I know I'm going to want to give it another look.

It's a great cast, smartly written and very slick overall (and I don't mean that in a cheap way) so eight bucks....yeah, close call...
