Yeah, but you know what I've read.... They scan the film in 4K, but the digital clean-up, color correction and such is done at 2K resolution, because it's being done for 2K 1080p Blu-rays. So, Fox would have to probably redo PATTON for native 4K.

I have the 2008 PATTON blu-ray and was amazed.
Is the 2012 better or what?
I don't see how it could be.

If you don't mind an otherwise great picture with its grain smoothed out, the 2008 transfer is quite nice, IIRC. But the newer version is even better, as in the grain is retained, so more detail and less 'waxy' ...

Rather annoyingly, Fox has never released the redo of this outside of America, & it's locked to region A ( like The Robe, locked & never released outside of the US).

More reason to go region free.

If you were watching this on a small display (and in 2008 ) the original Blu-ray could look pretty good compared to older format releases. Now, much more is expected from the Blu-ray format. The second release gets closer to the actual look of the film, which was the idea behind Blu-ray with its higher resolution and film frame rate. The first Blu-ray looks more like video while the second is more film-like.
