I just saw this movie for the first time on Blu, and for the first time since it was new - probably on HBO or whatever. I didn't even know who Michael Bay was back then, even though I liked several of his movies. This seemed different for him - big, but not gigantic, a bit more personal. In fact, I only bought the Blu because some poster here mentioned that it was a Bay film - insultingly, I think.

Anyway, I liked it, and I really dug that Cadillac! It may have been mentioned before, but the highway in the chase scene where the train wheels roll off destroying all those cars sure looked like the same section of highway the Wachowski brothers built for The Matrix Reloaded.

I don't know if this is the case, but Bay did reuse some footage of that chase in Transformers DOTM, still its a great chase scene on par with Bad Boys II and The Matrix Reloaded.

Finally got to see it on Blu today, and I was very entertained indeed.

I didn't remember much about the film, and was blown away by the sheer scale of the production, and the VFX.

The cast was great, and it's a really nice sci-fi action blockbuster.

The sound was awesome! The bass is insane!!
I also liked most of the soundtrack.

The PQ was leaps and bounds above the TV version I had seen, and you only need to check out the included making-of version to see how much better the BD is.

My rating:

Film: 4/5
PQ: 4,5/5
SQ: 5/5
Extras: 3/5

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and will so again in the future.
This is definitely Bay's best movie so far.
I don't like any of his others.

Yes! Very underrated film. Sure there are some plot holes but getting past that the film is incredible, IMO.

Johansson and McGregor are great and this is definitely top tier Bay along with The Rock and Bad Boys.

Also the video and especially the audio are demo worthy. That car chase is spectacular if you have a sound system.

The Island (2005) is Michael Bay's best movie, IMO. Generally, his movies are one explosion after another, with weak storylines.

For all of it (but especially the car chase part ) ... +1!

Yep, here Bay did pretty much everything right.

I already want to watch it again.

If you are used to watching BD, compare the PQ of the BD to the PQ of the making of, and you will see the enormous difference in an instant, and appreciate what we have with BD (even more).
