Thank you !! Your very welcome and glad I could help I just don't want you or anyone else here to get scammed or burned . Speaking of burned no punt intended but also look for burn in the display especially if the owner is a gamer and possibly didn't have the display setup correctly .

I have an 8G (I think), Elite PRO1150HD. I think I've had it for something like 5 years. Is there a typical life span for these?

It's more of a question of the number of hours used than the number of years owned ...

Is there a common amount of hours then that would designate it as possibly needing replacement soon?

Panasonic was the first to claim the 60,000 hour life span, up from a previous 30,000 just a year prior and now Samsung, LG and Panasonic claim 100,000 hours to half life.

From an article. It can vary. But they last a while. if it lasts 60,000 hours. At 12 hours a day, that's 5,000 days

Finally saw my first Kuro today, a 6090 in an Italian electronics store. God knows how long it's been sat there. It was next to a 65" ST50 yet looked bigger thanks to the ridiculously awesome picture-frame bezel. It also cost twice as much.

I‘ve always wondered, what exactly is so unique about the Kuro‘s panel that causes it to produce such deep black and why has no other manufacture been able to replicate it?
Blonde reads newspaper headline "3 Brazilian men killed in tragic sky diving accident."

Blonde frantically shouts "oh my god, just how many ARE 3 brazillion??"

This years Panasonic VT and ZT series come very close (I believe next years series will at least match).

That's not true. The Panasonic rep confirmed that the company will still continue with R&D after this year.

I believe it's modern eco-standards that are to blame (as always, as ever!). The Kuros love the juice. They also heat up something fierce (the one in the shop was more than warm to the touch).

True, though my Kuro 9G can squeak by even California's draconian standards. Some models of Panasonic and Samsung were ridiculous, sucking down more juice than several light bulbs, and that was just sloppy engineering.

It's possible to make a television that is both beautiful and efficient.
