I do not see much difference between an upscaled DVD and a Blu Ray so the main reason I rent or buy Blu Rays is for the audio. We have all seen countless hours of marketing pushing both the Audio and Video benefits of Blu Ray. We have all spent thousands of dollars on equipment chasing these promises.
I like to take full advantage of my investment. I think its perfectly reasonable that the studio or rental company provide notification that the offered product contains less than standard or expected quality. Then I can make the decision to rent or buy in advance. Its a real disappointment to find on movie night that you have a sub standard version.

it's the retail copy. so far the only major studios who strip the lossless is Lionsgate and Summit

Default DTS Master Audion missing on rental Blu-Rays

Two newer releases, The Equalizer and A Walk Among the Tombstones, both had only standard DTS, even though the menus listed DTS-MA. One was from Universal and one was from Sony.
